LOL yeap, sounds familiar. Well, for me it's about as much power as possible while keeping the stock look. I don't know what it is about it, but I love the clean as it should be look. I thrive on the engine compartment compliments more than anything else. I think it's because it is difficult challenge and something you seldom see. I know the overwhelming majority of Pontiacs I see have anything but a stock appearing engine compartment.

I know when we still had our 68 Firebird, I received more compliments on the non-numbers matching 400 with RamAir pans and a 100% bones stock/ accurate look under the hood than anything else. It's tough to find all the right brackets, clamps, hoses, stickers, TVS & hoses, colors of parts etc. and it's very easy to walk into any parts store and pull carbs, intakes, chrome brackets etc. off the shelf and bolt them on.

So for me, it's more about the challenge than anything. To have a known Pontiac enthusiest look under the hood and say "damn, you have just about nailed this 100%" is worth all the effort.

I hear you..... That's exactly what I wanted too. At some point I ceased to care. You're starting off with a much better "canvas" than I had. My car needed EVERYTHING, and at some point, I had to prioritize and bone stock looks finally succumbed to getting it done.

Every so often, I get the itch to go total stealth again, and might at some point (mine is not that far off), but not at the expense of power or driveability. Other than the dash, unless I open the hood, most folks think mine is a sedate, stock convertible. Some folks can't even tell WITH the hood open.

FWIW, There is very little in a parts store that will even bolt onto a Pontiac anymore!

As far as the "vocal, anally correct vintage experts that used to own one just like it" at the car shows are concerned, at this point, you might as well install yellow plug wires, fake braided fuel lines with the anodized clamp covers and clear glass fuel filter, Mr. Gasket air cleaner (complete with the obligatory "326-4V" sticker), MSD box (not connected to anything) on the firewall, finned valve covers, 22" rims, flames, Blackjack headers, cherry bombs, air shocks, Custom Autosound radio (with speakers in the door and 6x9s ON the hat shelf!), a gauge pod from Advance Auto, chrome oil filter (Fram, of course!)/alternator/water neck/dipstick, fuzzy dice, GTO hood, disc brakes, rear sway bar, etc. etc. etc.

i agree with the pt cruiser statement. no pt cruiser should be at any car show. when my vette was in the shop, the rental company said they had ford, gm, and pt cruisers. i said 'anything but the pt cruiser'. then they gave me an hhr.

I know they have been covered, and not exactly what you meant, but this one was at a car show recently. It was sitting among some very high dollar restorations.

It wasnt even finished nicely, just a set of wheels and tires. Check out the PERGO FLOORING! Lol...

The owner claimed he had an offer to sell for $28k which isnt bad in this economy. Figures.

Stupid colors or color combos (most often coupled with logos/branding)
Bumper Stickers of any kind... especially ones advertising that your kid is an honor student, or who the person supports in an upcoming election. Seriously? Nobody cares.








*Not to be confused with logos put on the car to represent race sponsors. However, if your car is not sponsored, and thus you get no money or benefits by putting stickers or logos on your car... then why make your car look like a giant piece of crap by loading it down with stickers?

any pontiac but mainly gto's and specifically the 66-7 gtos painted with a pair of racing stripes down the middle..........id almost rather see a chevy under the hood than to see these stripes painted on, theres a fine example of this in the pictures of norwalk thread thats going now, or even watch an episode of overhaulin.


really to be honest, even though its all in the name of trying to go fast or for clearence reason i hate to see the camaro type cowl inductions on any gto or trans ams, no matter how fast it runs or good it looks from ay angle once the hood is realized........cool cards are out!


sux seeing rattle can ovrspray on plug wires and other engine compartment wires after a rattle can resto.

ive had gauges in pods before and they do have there places in alot of cars but if you have original gauges, leave them working dont just unhookem so you can put the latest autometer gauges under the dash.


loose or cobbled up wires hanging from the dash, or worse, speaker wire running over the top of the carpet.
