Default Tires moving on the wheel

69 GP 4200# 1.64 60fts
12 bolt Eaton posi.
Boxed lower ,adj uppers ,rear sway bar mounts to lower arms
Air bags 16 psi in pass side 4 psi in driver Lt side
Edlebrock performer IAS gas shocks .

M/T ET Street drag radials 295/55/15 (between 17-21 psi)

Went to the track with wheels marked to tires .

Driver tire moved 11 inches over the course of 6 runs
Pass tire moved only 4 inches total.
The wheels are drilled for screws so I guess I'll put them in instead of messing with bead adhesive

Lots of rubber on the driver qtr , not much on pass side

I can tell from looking at pics and video the driver side tire is being distorted more than the pass side.
Is this a reaction of the chassis or an issue in with the Posi ? or both ..

I dont think the edelbrock gas shocks are the best choice for hard launches ?

I have seen a posi kick out of lock or not fully lock on cars in the burnout box and one tire spin slower than the other or spin and stop. That is why I would think you have more rubber on one side than the other and the other tire distorted more.

How long has your posi been in?

Robert

Left (driver side) hooks harder which explains why it rotated more. Yes, it's the chassis.

Take it EZ,
Brett

Don't understand why tires are "slipping" ?? When I was running Hoosier radial slicks & their drag radials (16 - 21 PSI) iwth signature car with my 600 HP motor my tires never moved...Might have to try some glue as I don't guess you want screws..
Are the rims chrome ??

Had the same problem with my Hoosier DRs. After doing the research, Permatex "high tack" was the solution. Have the tires mounted using water only as the lubricant. Tire soap can make this problem worse and not let the glue do it's job. Let dry thoroughly and apply the high tack to the wheel and tire both (wear latex gloves!!!!!) before inflating to seat the bead. Wait about 20 minutes to let the stuff dry a bit, then inflate. If you inflate too soon, the tire may slip bad on the first hit, but then settle in and stay put.
My wheels used to turn about 1/2" per pass. Makes it tough to stay balanced when they don't stay in the same spot!

Are those drag radials freshly mounted or have they been on for a while?

Tires are new for this season , about 20 passes . They probably have been moving since I mounted them , just decided to check now.

The wheels are drilled for screws , I was running ET street bias ply w/ tubes and they were moving then, cocking the valve stem. So I screwed em.

I guess I'll try the Permatex high tack as I really did not want to use the screws.

Thanks

So what can be done chassis wise to even out to force being applied ?

I have an air bag in the pass side with 17 psi thinking that should help some but now I wonder if the Edelbrock IAS street gas shocks are not really helping me ?

No close up video .. but here is one

Stop the tires from moving before you worry about anything else!!! After that, if it launches straight and hooks, let it be. Don't make a problem where there isn't one. There are lots of reasons the tires might move differently, but the first step is to stop them from moving. I like rim screws, but do whatever works for you.

Exactly.

Pin them. Even 4 per side would work better than none.

Hoosier and M/T will tell you not to use screws with the radials. Not sure why, but they want either glue or bead lock wheels. The high tack will work. A little messy to do, but a cheap fix.

Thank you , I will get them to stop moving and let it be as long as it hooks.
