Cracks in cylinder walls usually aren't the precise. Looks more like a ring or contamination cut. Most HD operation or lots of miles results in cylinder scratches.

I thought it was odd being that uniform......I can feel it with a fingernail....was not having an issue with that cylinder...hard to tell a scratch from a crack...

Have to agree A crack usually will be odd looking like above that is a perfect line, meaning something got caught in the ring? what made u decide to pull the one head car running different? Looks like a good reason for the KRE's now!

Sorry guys but ive got to ask something please, look at his water jacket holes, don,t they all look about clogged?? Maybe overheating caused this problem. Motor run hot?? Motor ever flushed out prior to this>>?? Look at third picture on top of page??

the water jacket holes are not bad at all......cast iron....always looks worse than it really is......especially when it dries up

Have you bothered to check the block & head surfaces for flatness around the area where that gasket failure was using a straight-edge and some feeler gauges?

If those areas are'nt flat enough, you'll likely be doing this again real soon.

Once water cuts a path it likes,it'll find that same path again unless something is done to significantly change that situation.

Water is one of natures strongest forces, just look @ the grand canyon.

Water under pressure is an even stronger force to try and contain.

FWIW

Here's a link to a discussion about pressurizing the water and why. I quit using Corteco gaskets after I blew 4 of them, but I also quit using ARP bolts at the same time, so who knows. Knock wood, the ARP head studs and Cometic gaskets are holding.
