My '68 has a decent-sized hole in the lower corner of the firewall on the passenger side, to the left of the first body mount there. It goes through about 3 sides of metal it looks like. I'll get a pic of it in the morning if anyone needs to see it, but do they make some sort of patch for that? Or do I have to start fitting metal in place? Thanks.

They do have a patch panel for that. It was covered in this forum before but not sure where it is. Fender covers that area so looks aren't that important. I had hole about size of a quarter, just cleaned and prepped good so it wouldn't rustany more and covered when installed fender. Figure it would be beter for getting any rain water out the bigger the opening. factory drain holes weren't that big to begin with.

This is probably the worst spot on the whole car. I tried looking in my PY catalog but I don't think I saw anything for that particular spot.

Ok it was in a forum titled "69 GTO cowl panel". Not sure how to link it but if you put that into the search it should come up with it.
Also parts place sells it as 69 GTO firewall outer cowl panels LH or RH |

I'll go check it out thanks. Could I patch this with the frame on?

I would think so. If the rusty area doesn't run under where the frame bolts are. But then I never used the patches. As a matter of fact I didn't even know they existed until someone on this forum spoke up.
Good luck with your repair |

That part is referred to as a cowl shoulder. Look at the pic and you will see it comes as two pieces. You cut the outer cowl off, then the inner portion in the blower motor and kick panel/door hinge area. Afterwards you weld the outer skin on. This is listed as a chevelle part, but surely all a-bodies would work.

My drivers side had holes at the bottom but looked a lot better than yours. I spent a ton of time making and welding in a fairly complex patch for it. It came out fine and the fender covers the repair anyway. But I definitely would spend the $120 on the patch panel if I had to do it over again.

I kinda would rather like to have a smaller patch, I'll look around and see if anyone has a cut out piece from an original.

I repaired both sides of my 69 from a doner car turned out real good. I know you dont see it when the fender is on but I still DO NOT want to see the repair with the fender off. Just anal I guess!

I have to agree with you codyyy. The less metal you patch in the better, but you can always cut out what you need in the repair panel and throw the rest away or cut it up for other patches.
