I sold a set of those awhile back. They were an older NOS set but they had a half dome about a 1/4'"and a trough next to it. Ended up with a +10cc volume instead of the normal -7cc of flattops. Puts the CR WAY up, if those are the ones I'm thinking of.

Here's a link to the pistons on Summit Racing website
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TR...9F60/?rtype=10 I have these to use on my build right now, the one thing not to overlook is the ring thickness, the oil is a low tension 1/8" pack. HTH |

Used to run them in my 400 street car with 6X heads.
10-1 compression. stock rods with bolts. Put a lot of bottles of nitrous thru them with no problems. 3 years of racing. Back in the day when I first purchased my T/A. 1975: 3800 lbs. hyd cam. 175 shot. 10.70's. Heavy but reliable back then. I do think the newer pistons that S.P. is making in India aren't as reliable to take what the older Made in USA units did. |

That's what I was looking for! There's a set listed on Ebay of the L2279's but they aren't the right pistons for the box. The pistons he has shown have a completely flat top with zero valve reliefs. Thanks! JD

I still need to buy the rings from you Ken for those pistons. Probably in a couple of months after my chemo.

I mention this because I personally would'nt run a low tension oil ring unless it was a race motor with a vacuum pump on it. I have a set of these pistons as well,so I have plenty of info/research on them,I'm going to use them in a 400 w/mildly milled 6x-4 heads, and as Ken pointed out that ends up @ roughly 10.0:1 CR to match my other 400 cid flat top race motors. I got pics from several angles too. HTH Bret P |

Those pistons are'nt really all that heavy to be honest.
That reputation mostly comes from the pins that come with those pistons. You would lose more weight by buying lighter pins than you ever would from taking material outta the pistons themselves. Those pistons weigh like 595g,compare that to a piston like the KB/ICON flat top 400 (558g) or dished forgings (575g) or the SRP 400 flat top forgings (520g) and you'll see that they aint really as heavy as some like to imply they are. The pins that come with the L2279F are like 200+ grams, now those are heavy. Lighter pins are an easy 50g+ weight savings. Food for thought. Bret P. |
