Default 68 GTO rear seat backrest

I need to know how wide the rear seat back is at the upper back where it meets the rear package tray. I have two seat frames and one is 50 inches wide at the top and the other is 55 inches. I am being told that they are both for a 68 gto, I need to know which one is correct. I also know that it is 68 only. 69 is not the same rear seat at all. Thanks for any help.

Why do you say that the '69 seat is different? As far as I know, only the cover is different on the rear seat. The front bucket back is different since the latch button is on the back of the seat rather than the side.
I have a '68 rear seatback I could measure for you this evening.

Should be the wide seat...the diff is what arm rest do you have...if they are the small ones that "float" on the door panels, it uses the wide seat..if your armrest go to the floor like a convertible you use the narrow seat..ive NEVER seen a 68 GTO with the narrow seat...

I have the small armrest that float and the wide seat. Thanks for your help. I have had two seats sent to me across the country and they were both narrow. They said the first one was 69 up and they said the second one was definately 68, but it must be a convertible because it is 5 inches narrower.

convertible is smaller..70ish gets the narrow seat all grand prixs from 69-72..all skylarks..not specials get the narrow seat, cutlass' get the narrow seat...etc etc...convert is more narrow than even the narrow seat......around 60 is the wide seat and 54ish is the narrow seat..convert is even more narrow...i have 4 or 5 laying around including convert..if need i could measure....

the wide seat is in GTO and Chevelles mostly, unless its a plain jane cheapie..like a special or an F85

Default Backseat

Is it possible that the narrow seat is from a 4 door?
