I have a 68 wt code block. my question is it has a Z in the vin. Did california built cars have a wt block or a different code.

WT is a std 350 HP 4-spd block. The Z denotes a Freemont, CA plant build. All engines were constructed in Pontiac and shipped to other plants for installation. Yours was installed in CA, hence the Z in the VIN. does it match a car you have?

The motor right now is in a 67 GTO with a origanal 67 PX code auto trans. The motor came with the car and for the $$ I had no choice but to buy it. I have not yet sent for PHS.I always thought the CA. cars either auto or man. had a different two letter code.

Plants did not determine engine codes...engine/tranny combo did....

All engines have a two letter code to denote both manual vs. Automatic and HP levels. WT is a 350 HP 4-spd block regardless of where the car was built.

I think he is assuming since the car was assembled in California, it would be equipped with California emmissions and carry a different block code. For instance, a 67 GTO equipped with a standard 400 and a manual trans with cal emmissions was code WW, as opposed to WT. I don't have anything at the house to verify this, but I don't think that continued in 68. Also remember that just because the car was built in Freemont does not mean the car was destined to be delivered to a California Dealer.
