I would say the plot thickens as even the dealer walked away from block.
Pretty interesting that the block got ebayed with car as it was the ONE without a money exchange.

There was no mention by the seller of the car in Florida that the "original" block was in Illinois. He said it went with the car.

Nope no mention. Block just appeared in a garage in IL? Some real Pontiac experts in that area of IL too....Not me

The guy that has this block listed is the guy that I bought the Judge from.

Not knowing acceptable date spreads, I'll ask. The block is dated Sept. 69 and the car was shipped March of 70. I assume it was built late Feb. Is this time frame normal? A two month spreas was acceptable and often normal on an LS6 but 5 or 6 months was not the norm..

My 71 gto was built in march of 71 and original block and heads were dated august of 70. it had 33000 original miles from my moms uncle who bought it new, although there was a strike in 71, so that might answer that question, but i would imagine it was possible in any year to have that kinda date spread. Who knows what they did back then.

Spread could be bigger from the rarity of car was well. Block could have been cast well ahead of an order for a RA IV Judge since few were made 5-6 months is possible. After build date is not a UAW thing....

Not saying that this block in question here is correct, but my 68 GTO numbers matching block has a mis-stamp. There is a 6 or a 9 that was upside down in the seq. part, someone on the line must of later caught it and stamped the correct 6 or 9 over the incorect number. I guess 6 or 9 would be easy to mix up, but 2 and 7?

This seems like quite an extensive conspiracy for a guy to go through in order to sell an engine block. How much do you think he had to pay the longtime second owner and the man he purchased the block from to field phone calls and go along with his diabolical plan? He seems extremely confident that this is in fact the original block to that car. I have seen too many exceptions to the vins stamped on these motors to think that the 7 on the block makes it a fake. I personally have a 70 Pontiac 455 motor with 2 vin numbers stamped on the block. Also, I have in fact seen two 1970 motors stamped with the #7 like this block. If somebody was going to restamp a WW block, don't you think they would do all their home work? But I'm sure this has to be a conspiracy because we all know Pontiac assembly lines never made mistakes. There was also a second gunman on the grassy knoll, and Bush of course blew up the levees in New Orleans.

No, i'm not Mike. I am just another die hard Pontiac fan that gets frustrated when all the so called "purists" feel the need to speak for assembly line workers 40 years ago. We need to remember that these cars were not created by some higher power. It was not an exact science, mistakes were pretty likely considering that these workers probably weren't required to have a high school diploma and were making under $4.50 an hour back then. I am willing to bet that the guy who stamped this motor was not a Ram Air IV enthusiast, but rather a disgruntled employee who was just there to get a pay check. I have been on the other end of this before where a part or car becomes worthless because of people on the forums assuming that everybody is a crook if their part is a little different than the rest. It seems like some people are much quicker to come up with a conspiracy theory than they are to consider the highly likely possibility that a simple mistake was made while stamping a number 40 years ago when the number wasn't nearly as important as it is today.

I agree that plant workers did make many mistakes! I have a 68 that the EUN matches the PHS perfect, just 1 number off on the VIN stamp. The casting dates all are within the correct range too. I also have a 68 parts car Lemans that the VIN stamping matches but the EUN does not match the serial # on the block, a 3 instead of an 8. I could go on and on about factory mistakes I have seen, and these are on low buck cars/parts cars, so nobody is trying to finacialy gain. It's just with the high dollar cars you have to scrutinize everything just a bit more. You think it's bad here, you should go on the Chevelle forum. Basically every car on there is a fraud because there is no paper work to prove it. And the factory workers would never make a mistake on a SS! Those were special cars that the workers all got down on there knees and bowed as they went by!

Hey everyone, my name is Mike, I am the one selling the block. If you have any questions feel free to call me at 815-621-2027. I will be happy to explain any confusion about the legitimacy of this block. If you need to track the history of the block, I can tell you right now that I purchased it on November 26, 2010 in Black River Falls, WI. I can put you in contact with the guy I bought it from, his name is Dale. I still have the pictures that he e-mailed to me 2 days before I purchased it and the same numbers were on it then. As they have been since September 12, 1969. The Judge was listed for sale with the block because the owner said he would buy it. He then used the pictures that I e-mailed him to put into his ad. The block has not been outside my garage since 11/26/2010. The only reason he backed out of the purchase was because of all of you people on the forum saying that the 7 makes it a restamp. All you "experts" are really showing your ignorance by doubting this block. It was mentioned that the 4 on the seq. number was fake because it was open at the top. Let me ask you this, why would anybody restamp a seq. number when those numbers have no significance? That is why I mentioned in my ad that you can use any forensic testing you want to test it. THERE IS NOTING TO HIDE! It was a tiny factory mistake! I am really embarrassed for all of you who doubt that its real and claim to be Pontiac experts. I know that the block is real, I know there is supposed to be a 2 instead of a 7, unfortunately there is a 7 instead of a 2. And guess what? That 7 has been there since september of 69. Not one person on here has bothered to confront me with even a phone call! Yet you can sit behind your computers and start rumors like a bunch of 15 year old drama queens. What motive would I have to try and fake this block? I am in the process of restoring a Ram Air IV and I have lost a lot of time having to find and build an SR block when I already had a WW in my posession. I offered it to the Judge owner for a fair retail price, there was no scamming or shake downs. I just thought he would like to have it rather than me putting it in my car. I can find an SR, he can't find another #'s matching block. Meanwhile here I am nearly three months later and I still have it in my posession because apperently on this forum you are guilty until proven innocent. I hope you can understand my frustration with the position I am in. I tried to do the Judge owner a favor and it blew up in my face because of conclusions that people on this forum came to. I know that if somebody called me tomorrow and offered me my real #'s matching block for my Ram Air IV, I would be ecstatic! Even if it started with a 7 or whatever #. You guys have successfully kept a Ram Air IV Judge from ever being put back as a LEGITIMATE numbers matching car.
