Default Purchasing an Exhaust System

I would like to treat my 69 Firebird to a new Pypes or Magnaflow exhaust system. Is it better to purchase the components first and ask a muffler shop to install them or is it better to have the muffler shop do a turnkey job, where they supply the same exhaust components? I cannot do this work myself. What do you guys do? Thanks. Great website.

I would say it would depend on the pricing. If you can get it cheaper, than supply the parts to the shop. If they will do it cheaper with them ordering the parts I would go that route.

Ask the shop their rates. Some might give you a discount on labor if you buy parts from them.

I bought my exhaust from a fellow forum member, and am having it installed at a shop that takes care of me very well.

I bought my system from Summit and installed it myself.

Too bad you are so far away, you could buy and have installed at PYPES.

Most shops do have have a mandrel bender.

I installed a Torque Tech exhaust in my garage in 45 minutes - fit like a glove.

My422 , pretty sure you meant "most shops do NOT have a mandrel bender."
