My tach looks just like that but it says Moon.

Skip, I used a fine tooth blade in my jigsaw that has an adjustable speed range and ran it at about a 5. It cut nice and easy.

Well I cut the engine turned piece with the jig saw. Clamped it to a shelf board and it was fairly thick anyway. The back piece my hand nibbler did Ok, it was thinner and on the back doesn't have to be as pretty. Now to try and clamp them and use a hole saw. I have a tool a friend has for cutting AC ducts that has a side cutting bit and a center spot to pivot around I may try for the big holes.

I jammed one of the old Sun tachs into the factory tach pod my 409 Impala had back in the 70s. Fit just right. Better than the factory tach.

Malco HC2 2 inch to 20 inch Diameter Hole Cutter is the tool you are talking about. They are around 60.00

I have a few of those "hole punches"....I picked them up at a plumbing supply store. Used to punch holes for faucets/etc. in sinks..Seems I've heard them called chassis punches too..

yup and I've put them through thicker than suggested metal too. Going to have to look up what Dil just posted. Sounds handy.

I spent a few hours in the shop Saturday and got the firewall and chassis ready to prime. Today I shot the primer and it covered real nice. Next week I'll round up some semi gloss black and get her spayed so I can get the engine back in and get her buttoned up. Oh, Dave Lennox is a huge fan of straight axle cars and stopped by to check out the progress.

Joe, I'm going to be diligently working on it, looking to be able to drive it to the Tulsa Pontiac Nationals April 30. I will still need to get the back seat upholstered and door panels done, as well as the paint job. There is still some minor body work left but I can work on that after she's rolling. Then at some point I'll add a roll bar and later on a Ford 9". I may have it Jammed before then but I'll just have to see how time allows. Still lots of work and I'll keep posting pics of the progress. Doing this kind of keeps me motivated.

Dil I can appreciate the keeping motivated. When Debs car came home from the body shop in April 04 everyone thought the car might at best make the last cruise-in. Deb informed me it would be done in time to cruise it a bit before the 1st big show the end of May. Oh no... Even I was wondering if I could. Heck it took 3 nights just to disassemble it!

Come home from work grab something to snack on and eat dinner at 11:00. I made the 1st local cruise-in 1st friday of may. Car wasnt complete but I had time to debug and final details before the show. More than a few were stunned to see it rolling so quick. Thanks to Deb working right along with me made it easier. Our two year old was out there with us in her stroller quite a bit too! Rebuilding/restoring the dash harness was the longest project. Price of a new one was nuts. The aftermarket dashpad didnt fasten like the stock one and had to improvise. The new convertible top was cut wrong and some trim holes got welded closed by mistake at the body shop. One of the boys had borrowed fasteners out of a bag and lost labels in other bags. I just recently found a can of hardware that was mia. Deb and I didnt put any parts in coffee cans so I suspect one of the boys needed one of our plastic tubs for fishing or something.

So... barring obstacles I think you got plenty of time Dil. You'll be done before you know it. Looking great.

Tried the Malco this weekend. Worked great on the thin sheet, but the thicker engine turned aluminum loaded up the bit even using WD40 as lube. Ended up using a 4.5 hole saw then a die grinder to open it to 4 5/8". Man that big bit threw shavings everywhere!

Here's mine the other small holes are for turn signals, high beam and brake. Since no E brake now probably won't ever get lit. The engine turn will make it look a little more like a TA to go with the Pontiac motor!
