I have a 70 GTO, 4speed. I do not have a speedometer cable for it. What is the length of the cable? Would this be a 2nd type, 2 piece or a 1 piece cable? What would be the part numbers? Thanks Steve

I got one from the local parts store for a 70 big car (Catalina/Bonny etc). It was a little long but it worked. Unless you're particular about putting something exactly correct.

Just put a new cable in mine, it was a one piece got it at Napa part # 615-1612 if your trans has the cable out put on the pass side this will be long enough, i routed mine up over the top of the trans out of the way of the shift linkage. 2 piece cables are for a car with cruise control. hope this helps.

My 72 GTO 3spd manual had a 2 piece cable when I bought it new. 3 speed sticks didn't have a switch built into the trans to operate the distributor vacuum advance like the 4speeds did. They used a speed sensor between the 2 spedometer cables to operate the advance.
The lower cable on mine would break every 10,000 miles, after 2 times I went to the dealer and bought a 1970 1 piece unit and never had another break.

I'm thinking the 3 speed and the 4 speed cables are different. 3 speed in 1970 should have speedo hooking up on the passenger side of the tail housing. 4 speed in 1970 was driver's side.

That's correct my 1972 3-spd manual does have the speedo cable on the passenger side of the trans.

Inline tube has a 61"one piece cable advertised for the 4spd.

I installed PY part GMU25UR today in my 1970 4spd GTO, with driver's side speedo input into trans. Packaging label says it is 62." (Close to what Inline Tube is selling which is 61.") This cable was plenty long enough to route out of the way, without making any sharp bends.

The grommet is too small for the hole in the floor, so I will have to replace that.
