I got a call from a friend that just came into possession of a '67 400/4 speed Ram Air Firebird convert. This guy is a Chevy guy through and though so he called me and I don't know that much about the 1st Gen Birds so I need to know what to look for on this car. He did tell me it does have the 2 traction bars on the rear, all of the ram air parts and is a very nice running/driving car with a lot of options that is suppose to have all original engine/trans/rear.
Any help? What to look for?

8 made so if its real...big if...its a nice score. RA pans have been available for a while so he will have to do some digging to find out.
I am aware of only 1 of the 8 surfacing so far.... What does PHS (or the original? window sticker) say? Also what are the last 6 digits of the vin. If its a low number (e.g. 15**** or less) its not an original RA conv....All RA cars were built very late in the 67 production cycle. |

I will know this weekend when I am able to get to his house to see the car and sticker. What else can I look for? Head casting #'s and such?

670 heads were also used in earlier RA1 birds I believe.
Do they repro '67 pans? I thought only '68 were available and they were slightly different. |

Dont think thats true on the 670's wrt to RA Birds. GTOs yes. Very early RA a-bodies have had 670's but I do not think any of the '67 RA Birds that have surfaced so far have been 6-7-0. From what I have seen, the Bird RA production cycle in 67 began later relative to the GTO.
That said, I have enough scars to know that one can never (100%) say never! ;-) |

Well, I just found out it's an air car so that shoots it down before I have a chance to look at it. Oh well, it sound like a solid car nevertheless.

Wick,
If you are not interested in this car, would you mind passing the information along to me? I am in the market for a 67 Vert and the 400/4sp is just what I'm looking for. You can send it PM or call me anytime! Thanks, Jerry 936-647-5901 |

I'll let you know once I find out more about it. It's located just a few miles west of Spring off of 45 so it's close.

Not trying to bug you, but did you get a chance to see the car yet?

Yes, I did see it and it is a VERY solid car. Guages, tilt, wood wheel, ralley II's, space saver, air, power top but I don't know if a real 400/4 speed car. The catch is I don't think he wants to sale now, the wife likes it now. I was only able to look at it for maybe 10 minutes but I will say there has never been any rust on that car or body panels replaced that I could see. I'll keep you updated.
