Everywhere I look for these aftermarket steering columns I am hit with one thing. They say they are for 69 Camaros but when I look behind the column itself I find that the price almost doubles when you start adding all the extras you need to make it fit! You start with the mount and then the sterring wheel adapters and the connection to the steering box!!!!

Anyone have a clear idea on what the end result will be??? The coulums I can find for $250 to $350 but looks like another $200 just to install the thing.

Kind of like selling rims for a car without the back of the wheel. Real pretty but you have to buy the back if YOU REALLY WANT TO USE IT!

I did a Flaming River a couple of years ago. Yes, there are some additional charges involved to get the proper hook up, but I absolutely love the end result. Personal preference of mine is FR over Ididit, primarily due to the fact that I installed one in a previous vehicle as well. They also have a great "help" desk if needed.

Can you elaborate on what you had to pay for the parts and what those were?

I'm not at home and don't have access to my old files, but the price was very reasonable and delivery was quick. I put one in a '66 GTO, and one in a '71 Hurst Jeepster. The GTO was considerably easier than the Jeep. They asked a multitude of questions to be sure that you got what you wanted and for me they certainly came through. I opted for a paintable tilt column in both, but you can also get it in stainless steel. Be sure to let them know about your electronics - stock vs aftermarket. For me, 2 times with no issues makes me a believer. I'm just an average guy, no expert, but I had no problems whatsoever installing. I'm considering them again for my '69 FB conv, just not that far along yet.

So do you agree that you are going to pay $150 to $250 more just for the parts to install it. That is why I dont like that they dont sell a kit so you know what you are paying for everything before you dive in deep $$$$

Yes, but it all depends on what you have, are looking for, and other factors such as electronics, raised/lowered, pitman arms, the list could be endless so to speak. Bottom line when I did mine, their cost proved to be well worth the expense vs the alternative. Of course I'd prefer to stay original where ever possible but sometimes the upgrade is worth it. I don't recall mine costing quite that much more, but keep in mind it was about 5-6 years ago and costs for materials have certainly gone up, not down.

Had a chance to see and ididit for a Camaro at a car show and the way it is done is very clean and easy. They weld 2 tapped bars to accept the original bracket so it is clean and easy.

Ididit 1120680010 is almost $400 with shipping. Generic columns are in the $240 range so trying to figure out if I can make some mounts and have them welded and still save some bucks in the end.
