Hi,
I have attached three photos. I have three questions: 1) What kind of diff do I have? Standard? Posi-Trac? Safe T Track? 2) What is your opinion of the wear on the gears? 3) Where can you get the Multipurpose Hypoid Gear Lube? Or, If I have the Safte T Track diff, where can I get the special lube required? Thanks, Jim |

1. It's an open rear.
2. I'm no expert, but the wear pattern looks good to me. 3. Your local auto parts store will have the gear oil you need.

Thanks for your responses.
How do I switch the rear end to posi-trac? Do I need a whole axle assembly, or can it be done inside the existing diff? |

Differential housing and axles are the same. The center section is what needs to be replaced. Best Bet is to go aftermarket. Unless you want to purchase new gears, find a posi unit that supports your current gears. Some are Auburn, Detroit Locker... Perhaps call a company like Moser or Currie Enterprises for input...

If you take an axle shaft from a 4 pinion posi and put it alongside an open rear axle shaft you'll see the posi shaft is larger diameter,,dose not neck down like the open one.
