Default Can Am tire sizes?

What is the largest tire that can be run on a stock 77 Can Am Rallye II rim and not hit or rub the fenders?

I am not quite to the point of buying good tires yet, but it is something I will need to know.

Thanks,

Chris

I have P255/60R15 BFG Radial T/A's on my Can Am. There is a minor amount of rub on the front stabilizer bar at full lock. Nothing to be concerned with. They fill out the fenderwells nicely.

I am glad I asked, I was considering going with the 235/60, nice to know I can run something wider.

Thanks!

I've also got 255/60 15's on mine. (I think the "proper" size is 225/70, equivalent to 235/60.)

Diamond Back tires has some interesting choices, but they're a little more pricey than the everyman Radial T/A.

I have 235 70s on the front and 275 60s on 8 inch rally IIs on the back, no rubbing and they fit under the fender wells

235/60 isn't the equivalent of a 225/70. The 225/70 is 27.3" tall. The 235/60 is only 26.1", over an inch shorter.

The 255/60, at 27.1" tall, is the one that is practically the same height as the original 225/70.

Thanks Steve, asleep when I wrote that. Lots of online tire size calculators out there too. May come in handy if those aluminum 17" Rally II's ever appear for sale at PY...

THinking ahead to the upcoming 17" Rally II, 255/50-17 is the same height as the 255/60-15, and would still leave a bit of sidewall.

Lots of brands to choose from in the 17" size, but not much choice when it comes to 255/60-15. Mine are Firestone SS20, an older model of the Indy 500. I'm pretty happy with them, the Radial T/A was my second choice. Based on a quick search for the 255/60-15, I think that those two tires are pretty much the only tires/brands that are left that are reasonably priced.... see http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...r=15&x=15&y=13

If you are looking at 225/70's, the Goodyear Polysteel radial is now being reproduced.... if you want that vintage look!!!! Both large and small letter options.

Can't remember if mine are 255/70 or 255/60, but they're mounted on 15x8 Snowflakes...no rubbing!

Default Can Am Tires

I have 255-60-15's on the rear and 245-60-15's on the front of my Can Am and also my 73 GTO. Both cars have a nice stance and look good! I my opinion the 275's are too big for a 7" rim. I think you would need a 8" rim for then to fit correctly. Just my 2 cents

I also have Firestone Firehawk SS20's. Wish they didn't change the name. But they are the best 15" handling and riding tires I've had. So I'll get some Indy 500's when I need more. I have Radial TA's too, and they're okay, but they don't drive as good as the Firestones. So, like you, they are my 2nd choice. The Radial TA's do last a long time though. I wish the Firestones came in 245/60-15's, since I like that size on 7" wide wheels.

Checking Discount Tire Direct, it looks like they only carry the Radial T/A's, Goodyear and Cooper Cobra's.

Anyone run the Cooper tire? I have no experience with them
