Default convertible top

Getting close to ordering my top for a 69 vert. Originality not a concern, looking for opinions as to whether I should go vinyl or cloth. Top color will be the original off-white available in 69 or close. Looking for input on durability, appearance, cleanability, etc. This will be installed professionally so ease of installation is not a concern to me. Any comments (pro and con) concerning glass or plastic window also appreciated, although I am leaning towards glass at this point. Any opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

origional material hold greater value. after footing the bill you will, instinctively. take good care of it. there are several convertible top manufacturers, shop around because the difference in quality is significant.

I had a convertable top last last 7 years exposed to hot humid summers and frigid northeastern winters, thats got to be some sort of record.

You don't want a plastic rear window! Trust me.

I have original style on my GP due to wanting to keep the restoration as close as possible. REALLY wish I had gone with cloth, would have been worth loosing a few points in judging.

Since we drive this car a lot the top is usually down and then when I raise it the vinyl looks like crap until it stretches back out. The cloth on my daughter's Sebring looks great as soon as you raise it.

Thanks for all the responses. Cloth it is, along with a glass window.

Haartz HR 47 "bone" color with black liner is the color and material. Is RaggTopp a cleaner/ conditioner? Where can you find it?

P.S. I'm getting excited now. Ordering the top Tuesday and not more than 5 minutes ago my 69 just moved under its own power for the first time in over 30 YEARS. (I bought it about 5 years ago.)

I had an original type vinyl top with a plastic rear window installed on my '67 GTO convert in 1985. The window fogged up yellow by 1991 (car was a DD and never garaged). Replaced the window in '91 and since '93 the car has been garaged. The 26 year old top still looks great and works fine. The 20 year old plastic window is still pretty clear. It's a black top.

The correct top is pinpoint vinyl NOT cloth !

The only thing bad about the real cloth tops is they SMELL (like your old tent
smells) if your car spends any time out in the weather.
If you have a garage queen then ignore my post.................

But for a daily driver any quality vinyl top in the correct pinpoint pattern is
the ticket. Glass window is the best and correct depending on year.
Glass is correct/factory for 69.

Note that you will also need to replace your tacking strips.
The old cork/paper blend in your 69 is prob. flaking away and won't hold the
staples anymore.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I realize vinyl was original, but to me cloth LOOKs better, seems to wear better, and I don't care about originality, so cloth it is. My top frame has been completely stripped and repainted, so the tack strips are long gone and will be replaced. My car might be bordering on being a garage queen as it will be stored in one, but will certainly NOT be a trailer queen As I am hoping to drive it ALOT.

MGO.................Both my 69 Chevelle and Impala ragtops had glass
back windows same as my 72 so I can only assume they were factory........
