Has anyone installed aftermarket AC in a 1963 or 1964 Full Size Pontiac. I have a 1964 GP non AC car and would like to add AC. Any suggestions.

I looked at doing the Vintage Air unit in my 62 Bonneville, I made a cardboard box to the outside dimensions of one of their units, and held it under the dash. Due to the shape of the wiper area and firewall, it had the box hanging out under the dash too far for my liking.

Red, They have a "dummy" box you can usually borrow from one of their dealers to check the exact dimensions and SHAPE.......just sayin' Eric

There is a kit for early GTOs. Do you think that could be made to fit?

Eric, I know about the "dummy box", but my home-made box was to get an idea if it was at all feasible. I had to remove the glovebox, or else it wouldn't fit under the dash at all.

Red, Understood. The kit for my 67 GTO came with a shallow glove box replacement liner.....about 2 1/2" deep. Since my car is no where near stock, and I will have a console, I don't care. I am amazed at how much "stuff" they can put into that box under the dash!!!!.....there is nothing on the fire wall under the hood. The factory system is way too complicated and big for my needs. In your situation, I guess you gotta either loose the room under the dash....OR......try to find the million little parts for a factory system......Eric

before you jump into a vintage air system, there a few factors to consider: 1) where you live, if in the south, Classic auto air systems have a larger capacity and cool to a lower temp, 2) all of vintage air systems use the exact same evaporator box, regardless of what kind or size of car (classic has lots of box sizes/configs), 3) service down the road, classic evap boxes can be opended and serviced (i.e. heater core), vintages are glued together... 4) classic is going over to a electronic control system, so greater control and easier install... just my four cents,
