Default AC compressor throws oil

The AC compressor on my 69 Firebird throws oil on the underside of the hood. This is an R12 system with the long compressor. I have been told that it is normal for them to lose some oil. My question is - do the compressors have their own oil reservoirs in them, or is the oil coming out the oil that is in the system with the freon? If it is the oil in the freon, I guess it is probably losing freon too?

Typical for the front seal to wear and you are losing freon....you need to get a new compressor .... or...rebuild the one you have.

You may want to try to loosen the belt a little. I had tightened mine up to eliminate a squeal. Shortly after that, it started throwing light amounts of oil on the underside of the hood and on the inner fender. I re-adjusted the belt a little looser and it stopped.
