Hello - I have an aluminum cabinet that I got at the swap meet last week. It's a big GE Traffic control box. It had one layer of school bus yellow on it which I was able to remove with some A/C Stripper and a paint scraper. It has another layer of black paint or something that doesn't to bubble up like the yellow paint did. I know I could take it to someone to blast it but, my funds are limited for this project so I'm trying to do it on my own. Any ideas as to how to remove the old black paint as the stripper isn't working?

DA sander with some 80 grit or put the aircraft stripper on and lay a piece of plastic over it so that it doesn't evaporate before it starts working. We use something called Chisel that comes in a spray can, that may work better. Good luck

Try a razor scraper.

If the black coating under the paint cannot be removed with paint stripper or the likes it is most likely an Anodic Coating and will need to be sanded off or there may be a reverse method used by industrial plating/coating companies but probably quite expensive.
