Yes, I think I can. I gave this all a great deal of thought last night. It would seem to me that the real key is how far into the pan the dipstick extends from the point the tube shoulder seats in the transmission case. So, looking at the tip of the one you photographed, my "full" should start at about 1 1/8 inch from the tip of the dipstick.

In the mean time, I'll call the local GM dealers to see if anyone has that part number. I'd rather have the real deal if I can get it.

I'm bring this back cause it's relevant to my situation.
My 67 Gto with turbo 400 trany was whining real bad and would not go from a standing stop. The whine was a pulsing whine that sounded like it was coming from the trany pump. After a few seconds the car would start to motivate in pulsing manner but the whine was then constant and loud.
I dropped the pan and replaced the filter thinking it might be clogged. The service manual says that there should be 7.5 PINTS of fluid to replace after dropping the pan. I had 7 Quarts. Almost twice what it should have been. Over filling is an indicator of what was happening, so it makes sense as to the problem I was having, but my fluid level according to the stick was right at full. I replaced 7.5 Pints of fluid and the car runs great now with no sound.
However, when checking fluid level nothing shows on the dipstick, nothing. I believe that its too short and that caused the problem of over filling the transmission. When I had the pan off I noticed that the stick, while fully inserted in the tube, was only sticking out inside the transmission about .5 inch.
So my question after all that is. How far should the dip-stick stick out from the end of the tube inside the pan? And it that a better judge of whether we have the right length dip-sticks? As opposed to just how long it is.

It doesnt matter what tube you use (if you can get it to fit your tunnel) as long as you use the correct dipstick. Long or short doesnt matter because they both protrude the same amount out of the bottom. Just like someone said if you can measure an original and see how much sticks out of the bottom you know. Chevy Olds Buick Pontiac doesnt matter as long as it bolts to your engine and clears the tunnel as LONG AS you use the correct stick that came with it. Now politically correct fit is another thing
