I had a request to measure the ride height at the fenders for my car (which has its original front and rear springs)

Sitting on BFG 235x60-15 Radials at 32 pounds each.
Measured from the ground through the center line of the center cap, to bottom edge of the fender lip.

Driver's Front: 26-1/2", Passenger Front: 26-3/4"

Driver's Rear: 27-3/4", Passenger Rear: 27-1/2"

I know its kinda weird that they are diagonally 1/4" high but I have seen a lot worse in terms of height variations. I had a 1969 Z11 Indy Pace Car Camaro that had a 1" diagonal difference, so 1/4" isn't a big deal.

Both fronts with original springs, Goodyear 235/60/15 are 26.5
both rears with Pro Touring GT springs, Goodyear 255/60/15 are 27.00

Steve, I'm a bit late to the party here. I spent about 3 days reading everything here and found it quite entertaining. Just wanted to say thanks for all the effort you went through to post all this information. It should prove helpful with my '73 Formula I'm working on. A few things I found really interesting in all this was... 1. Your 8-track tape. I have the same one in my '72 LeMans sport (my Grandmas car); 2. The trick to spray the tool handle coating on the Formula wheel. I've had that same idea in my head for well over 10 years. I even have a can of the stuff in my basement I bought when the idea first hit me. The can I have is just the "dip" style that I was going to thin and spray with a jamb gun. I didn't even know the stuff came in a spray can till reading your post.

One question I have... what was your preferred method of cleaning nuts and bolts for re-use? Super Clean? And did that do a good job or did you end up sending nut/bolts out for re-plating. And how the heck do you keep them organized while cleaning?

I finally got some tires for the rims that I won from Year One for my Gramma Rose's 1975 Firebird. They will be going on Gramma's Firebird but I wanted to see how they fit on the T/A in terms of clearance and ride.

They are the 275/40x17 BFGs as recommended by Year One. They actually fit fine with no rubbing whatsoever! I drove around some windy/bumpy roads to check for rubbing and didn't hear or feel a thing. The car does handle and drive a bit stiffer than the BFG 235/60x15s I normally run, but the ride is nowhere near as jarring as the orginal bias ply F60x15 Polyglas tires.







I compared the height measurements of each tire and they are as follows:

F60x15 Goodyear Polyglas: 26" tall
235/60x15 BFG Radial T/A: 25.5" tall
275/40x17 BFG Sports: 25" tall (of course the BFG specs said they would be 25.9" tall on a 9" rim)

I'll try to get the weights of each tire later today when I move them over to Gramma's car but I can tell you the 17" set up is really heavy (one of the tires landed on my pinky while moving them out of the truck and I was not a happy camper).

Steve,...has anyone made you aware that you made the 2012 Hemmings Muscle Machines calendar? Well actually not you, but your TA. LOL. It's in May & is a gorgeous shot. The photo (credited to Terry McGean) really highlights the incredible panel alignment you achieved! These cars are terrible to line up just so. Congrats again on the job very well done!

Just to make Norwood happy, I put the 17's on Gramma Rose's 75 Firebird where they belong.

They do look better on her car, I think. The car rides great and like the T/A, no rubbing lock to lock or over bumps with the stock suspension. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=664082&page=6
