Agreed -- The tiger is its own animal - pun intended - It seems to take a fair amout of work to develop the upper end HP - can it be done - -yep - can it be done off the self or with minor tweeks - most likely not.

The reputation of the Tiger head and its performance can not be argued. The question I wanted to know was how many guys are actually running these combos at this level.

I think the answer would be - If you build it they will come-- Its not easy to get to that level -- with that being said if there were a head that could make that 1050 HP with out as much R&D -- ect ect -- you would see more of us up there.

The reciepe for 1050-1080 HP Tiger head engines is available from Allpontiac, but just like a good meal ,give a dozen cooks the same ingredients and the results will vary from a great meal to unedible, with engines its just Engine builder 101.Bill C.

The Tiger head ran very good right off the bat. Cars like Gaydosh,Rex and Langers all improved a lot over the Super Chiefs and Series II Wenzlers they had on there cars.

Then again - If the basic product provided for those meals is inconsistant from one batch to the other - -you will NEVER get a consistant result for your "meal"-- Regardless of the cook.

Good point...but, one could also argue that when the Tiger was released to the public, there was 1 or 2 actual active heads-up N/A class racers that immediately purchased them and also had the budgets to develope them into what we see today. Unfornately for the CV head, this was not the case.

I cant imagine what would have happened in 69 when the RA5 appeared if the internet was around then. Arguing seems a big part of Pontiac tradition!

We've got a set as well. Langers old stuff, done by BES, complete with a matched BM-1 intake. Bought them from Larry Quinn, through Hooter. Tony tells me we got them for about 1/5th what they cost to build the first time around. They will go on the 63 Tube Chassis car we bought off of Dave Debono that used to be Mike Cooper's ride. yeah, I'm cheap, and poor! Making the best out of everyone's leftovers...

I'm sure that's true, as I don't know too much about the SC's. Weren't they a raw casting that needed to be finished or were those a bolt on deal?

The Super Chief was the best head out their until the Tiger head. But it always had casting issues. Yes it was a raw casting.
