Default A boost/vacuum question

I am looking for "factual opinions" on vacuum availability on an engine with an 8 71 supercharger. If i wanted to run a PCV system, can I a) take vacuum from below the throttle plates/above the blower. OR b)the air filter on 1 or both of the carbs......it seems to me that this is better than no pan evac at all.....I am using this car as an occasional street cruiser...not a racer....I am just looking to keep the engine clean and happy. THOUGHTS PLEASE! and as always, THANK YOU, Eric

To the aircleaners would be simply same as just VC breathers. Carb bases with pcv valves only downside is strong possibility of getting oil in A/F mix. A vacuum pump might be a way to go at street boost levels. Depends on pump and amount of blowby under boost. Multiple well baffled breathers can do just fine and breather(s) itself need not be on valvecover(s) Some have had good success with Izusu smog pump or Ford pumps.

you may want to consider going with old style evac tubes down into the exhaust instead. so you keep everything up top nice and shiny.

We used a large Lysholm Supercharger on the Hydrogen Bus I helped designed for a Research project at Ford. We used a functioning PCV system that pulled vacuum above the intake manifold right after the throttle body and before the supercharger. Plenty of vacuum there.

We did need to use a Oil Separator system to help trap oil/air coming from the engine.
What type of valley pan are you running? I would think that a valley pan from Ace would work very well with a PCV valve and a coalescing air/oil separator. Here is a link for manufacturers:

Thanks Gents, I really want to use a PCV type system. I was originally going with breathers/catch cans. I would sleep better knowing that I had a little vacuum pulling the fumes from the block....I have a flat aluminum valley pan with no grommet, I have a set of Kevin Swaney's Billet-Tek Valve covers. They are presently undrilled. If I need to change valley pans, I still can (sorry richie!). The goal : a clean motor. Mr. V, I am going to look at those oil filters.........I am pretty sure a pan evac system won't help with mufflers, and a full exhaust (street car)......We will continue to research!!!! Will post with pics. THANKS !! ERIC

i am running a 6-71 with a pcv built in breather, in one valve cover, pulling at the baseplate of one of my edelbrocks, works flawlessly. very simple. (you could pull at the valley pan too)

I've run PVC in the valve cover pulling from the carb baseplate in the past with no trouble. Also just ran 2 breathers and no trouble that way either.
