3 to 1 ratio favoring hideaways. About as expected. Anyone know of the factory production figures one vs the other?

Diego has this information. I think he obtained it in a similar way as to how Indiana Jones obtained the golden idol in the first scene of the first movie, with arrows whizzing by his head, having to escape in a biplane, while natives shot darts at him.

Anyway, he found some fantastic stuff while he was visiting the GM Heritage Center, and did some great research.

1968 - 87,684 total GTO's, 48,927 produced with hideaways.
1969 - 72,287 total GTO's, 32,023 produced with hideaways.

Well, to clarify, I only have percentages, so there may be some wiggle room with the numbers. :-)

I also like the look of Hideaways when they are on, especially when the hardware is nicely detailed.

I really like the 69 GTO with hideaways. Probably the best looking musclecar front end. Problem is I don't currently own any cars equipped with hideaways on the PHS. I sold my black 69 last year to Helge71.

Diego- 44% of '69s came with hideaways? that seems high to me but only because 0 of my 11 have them.

Do you guys think adding hideaways to a car helps or hurts the value?

Depends whether you or a potential buyer cares about originality. Always avoided hideaways myself.

Quick aside, if I may....were the little valance grilles related to having the hideaways? Seems like the actuators show if you don't have those grilles.

Valance grilles were 69 only and only with hideaways.

I think hideaways make the front of a 68-69, combined with the endura nose it made for a striking look, especially back then.

I think hideaways fall into the "must have" options that make a 69 GTO extra sweet...

Hideaways
Hoodtach
Ram air
4 speed
Soft ray, all windows
Power antenna
Rally wheels
Safe t track
Wood wheel
Gauges

Everything else is secondary

Standard. I knew I would be in the minority but I'm surprised it's so lopsided. I think the fixed headlights make it look tougher. Hideaways seem a little too pretty/sexy for me.

Standard, non hide a ways for me. The first 69 GTO (or 68 for that matter) I ever personally laid eyes on was a 69 CR Judge with standard headlight configuration and I thought it was the meanest car I had ever seen. Was always a Mustang fan up until then. The Judge was at the local dealership about 1/2 mile from where I lived. I think I spent all summer up there, I was 13 years old and that car made a big impression on me which stands to this day.

Looking at Mike Noun's post from years ago...

1968 - 87,684 total GTO's, 48,927 produced with hideaways.
1969 - 72,287 total GTO's, 32,023 produced with hideaways.

Interesting that Hideaways went from 55% in 68 to 44% in 69, I wondered why, three probable major factors;
...word of problems with Hideaways reduced appeal by the second year
...they were going out of style
...the Judge was promoted without them (I say this even though many factory promo cars were so equipped)

I compared my PHS's and came up with this... 29% of Judges were Hideaway equipped but 53% of non Judge 69's had Hideaways. This is based on my having about 700 69 GTO PHS's (but Judges are substantially over represented I have 4% of Judges but only 0.75% of non judges). Looks like the Judge option accounts for a big part of the drop in the option take rate in 69.

The only hideaways I didn't like at GM was the 68 GO, garish! Yuck!

I prefer the fixed lights on muscle cars. Hide away's look good on luxury cars.
