I can not believe that none of the self proclaimed Chevy Truck guys haven’t mentioned this yet: What American Vehicle did Hot Rod Magazine give the award as the fastest American Vehicle IIRC 1973 or 1974??? And no, shocking even then, it wasn’t the Super Duty Pontiac. IIRC: It was either the 1973 or 1974 Big Block 454 C-10 Chevy Truck was named the fastest Muscle Car of the Year by Hot Rod (?) magazine. I remembered reading that in disbelief. Chevy guys can feel free to chime in with the details. As I remember it from back then, it was a Red Step-side that was featured in the article. Similar to the one in: The Driver, Movie, 1978 http://www.imcdb.org/movie_77474-The-Driver.html

![]() I live in the real world where there are real people that are involved in dirt track racing. I do live in an agricultural area, but many of these farmers are millionaires (and many of them are racers/race fans). Quote:

Champ – Any idea which issue of Hot Rod that had the 1973 or 74 C-10 454 Chevy Truck awarded the fastest (IIRC: 1/4 mile @ LACR or OCR) article?
IIRC it was a black & white article and the truck was a 4-spd. |

This site has a lot of the Mag covers from Hot Rod.
Hot Rod Mags I do remember they had a lot of articles on trucks and vans back then. Don't really remember a truck as being the fastest. (faster than the vette possibly? )

I'm guessing he's remembering the Dodge Li'l Red Express being faster than the Corvette in '78 or so.

Ford may have been ahead of the pack in '68, but there were no "true" aero cars till the Charger 500 came out, which was for the beginning of the '69 model year.

![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nV2h...1&feature=fvwp Call me a hick, but for some reason I prefer going water skiing, boating, partyin' & seeing hot women tanning in the cove instead of old clunkers racing around in a dirt circle. How many women attend those events that weigh under 200 lbs Chump ? Courage ? Oh ! Now this "Come up and meet me" crap ![]() Well, maybe you should bring your Government Motors Chebby down to the Rally races we have. I'd laugh at how the 4 cylinder Subies would eat 'em for lunch without the benefit of a government welfare bailout : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvU5X9_Tw5o Of course Chump with the beaut below you have alot of room to talk about us toothless hicks, maybe if I was not a toothless hick I could caught something like that instead of settling for the woman in my Bonneville ?

The most important thing is that we now know that the 77 Datsun 620 was a Supertruck

Clunkers? That may be what they race down in the Ozarks (we don't have a class for ratty Crown Vic clunkers - or cars with a minimum 116.1" wheelbase). Our entry level class - this is Danny Hanson - a national championship winner: ![]() The car I've worked on for many years, with Coach T behind the wheel: ![]() A 6 or 7 time national champion, Craig Thatcher. Another car I have helped work on. ![]() And another friend of mine, Steve Arpin (with his wife - under 100 pounds) who has run both NASCAR Truck and Nationwide races (10th place finish at Daytona). Another shot of Steve holding my niece's little boy at Deer Creek Speedway. ![]() Another friend of mine (my wife used to work with his mother) - Jimmy Mars. ![]() Jimmy is the same age as you, but started racing cars in 1985 (when you were still riding a bicycle). He's an engineering grad, and has a racing resume that is very impressive as a driver, but he and his brother have owned and operated their own race shop building race cars for drivers all over the country. http://www.marsracecars.com/index.html All the above cars are Chevy powered. All these friends of mine have won championships. Quote:
You did post this: Quote:
That's not to say that people from down south don't come here, but they are real racers - not your "toothless white trash" from the Ozarks. We had racers from 24 states, Canada and Australia race here last year. Demographics of the fans - 8% are "professionals" (medical/lawyer), 10% are in management, 10% are in the computer field, 9% are business owners, 10% are in sales, 14% are in mech/elect/vocational, 2% in retail and 29% are blue collar/labor. Over 90% of the fans are HS grads (14.4% of the fans are 18 or under), over 49% have attended college and over 26% have at least a bachelor's degree. Quote:
![]() Your wife is very attractive in that photo you posted. How old was she when that was taken (as I don't believe you have a Bonneville at this time) and how old is she now. Why didn't you post a current photo? Glad to see that you are so obsessed with me that you actually would go to another thread and copy a photo of me and my wife and take the time to make up an extremely lame title for the photo... ![]() Our own resident board stalker... One last thing, to get us back on topic... When are you going to replace your Ford PU with the "longest lasting, most dependable" truck in America - a Chevrolet....

Cousin and I are building a Mk II Ford Cortina for rally racing. Only have one pic I could find was taken the day we found it in Oklahoma field. It's under construction. Granted it's taking a bit longer then I like, but building a Ford Kent 1600 w/ Lotus head is a bit of a challange then another Chebby small block Quote:
And, you're only kiddin yourself : anyone in that sport knows certain tracks will bend for certain buddy groups and locals regardless of the car make they drive. Quote:
Lotta' braggin on your buddies there, Champ. Kinda weak. What have you accomplished ? What do you actually do to the cars you work on ? Under 100 lbs ? I prefer a woman with some more meat and curves, myself Quote:

Frontenac is not for poor boys; next door neighbor had a Jaguar XKSS, one of sixteen manufactured; a $250,000 car 30 years ago Wife inherited property here, and we prefer the privacy and the peace & quiet. It's nice to be able to leave your keys in the car, too. Quote:
It was really a damn nice car, but even the Chebby guys rejected it despite the fact it was a big block; it was not a Nova, Chevelle or a Camaro. A 305 Camaro was more respected in those Chebby a-hole crowds. the car did have one of Chebbys many problems: starter motor drilled off from the flywheel. Ate starters constantly. You could not shim it correctly ! Found out later Chebbys were just slopply manufactured engines and that was typical. Fast forward to 1990 : helped a buddy throw a 455 in a Trans Am. Really started liking Pontiaca after that. Havent looked back since. And Chebby guys are major A-holes to Pontiac guys. Besides, GM doesnt make a 4wd 4 dr truck that runs 14s and can do 22-23 mpg. Longest lasting ? Says who ? Maybe in suburban use, but not when workin' 'em like a dog ! what survey ? What was the population size of the sample ? Quote:

Regardless, you seem to like name calling and making derogatory comments when you can't post facts to prove your point. The titling you created for the photo of my wife and I up in Alberta "Brokeback Mountain" is very telling about you as a person. You really need to get a Chevy truck. It would probably improve your outlook on life. Driving those Fords must really be depressing to get you into a lather like this. |
