Can anyone tell me what the proper distance between the fan and the radiator should be on a 65? (389)
The other question i have is what temperature should the motor be sitting on?
Mine normally sits on 180f but yesterday it crept up to 212f is this to hot?
Someone mentioned to me that my fan is to far from the radiator, mine sits about 2/3 from the radiator and there is a gap of about 1 inch between the edge of the shroud cover and the fan.

If you have a shroud, it should be half out of it.

look under the hood of a '69 GP next chance you get. You'd need a 1 foot spacer to get that fan close to the radiator! Just sayin'''that's what shrouds do! Ron

One topic I am well versed in since our company made the shrouds for those years... the comment above earlier is correct blade should be half in and half out of the shroud opening to be most effective.

Few more tips.....we supply the companies with the wider bottom brackets and rubber bushings so if you have the narrow rdiator and upgrade to the 4-row (core) radiator you can do so and have it fit properly.

Another tip if you have a clutch fan to see if it is working properly have some start your engine while you observe the fan rev it slightly and shut it off....the blade should take a few turns and come to a fairly abrupt stop....if it kind of free spins when you shut the car off the clutch unit is BAD.

All this has a bearing on the temps......

Course if you are not running a full surround radiator shroud....get one....it was an option and if your car had ac it was standard....again going by memory on this.
