That's exactly what I've been thinking. Easy to remove and easy to install and no extra work in welding a bunch of patches... The resto shop will be thrilled! I really wish full quarters were available, oh well, such is life...
I hope to be placing a huge order within the next few weeks... I'll post new pics when I have them. |

I've been busy with other cars but I now have some funds to order all my sheetmetal. Should have all of it ordered tomorrow and sent to the resto shop... They will be taking a pic of all the goddies when they arrive. As soon as I have more, I will post more pics.
The closer we get to having all the metal work finished, the more the "boss" has mentioned modifications... I planned on all stock, oem, numbers matching. Then she says she like the pro-touring style; how about an LS1 conversion?, or a built 455, and then back to stock.. Then we're talking about the color. It's supposed to be champagne gold. Personally, I don't care for it. I prefer tiger gold or even better Verdoro Green, however everyone I tell gives me the face and says "green? Really?".... Is it that bad? UGGGHH, my head hurts and we're only in the early-mid stages.... I know the stock stuff seems to be way cheaper and the 326 and the gears it has are good for MPG. However, this car is probably going to be just like my Buicks;- a garage queen that sees only nice warm weather and cruise nights and car shows- not sure the mpg will be much of a concern. Thoughts? |

I'll be looking forward to your pictures of the progress. As to you questions, here are a couple of my thoughts... 1. If you keep it stock (326, etc), then I'd probably go for a 'stock' color. Maybe not the champagne gold, but a 'stock' color for the year of the car. I too like Verdoro Green, but it's obviously not 'correct' for the 66-67 A-bodies, so I probably wouldn't put it on a 'stock' rebuild. 2. If you go the pro-touring route, then go for a custom color while you're at it. Make it 'custom' thru and thru, including paint/interior, wheels, lots of chrome, gauges, etc. Have fun with it! 3. I know the trend for 'corporate motors' has a following, and has its place in the hobby, but personally I wouldn't put one in. I just like the real Pontiac engines too much, and I think that you can build a very stout, reliable, and great looking one even if you go the pro-touring route. 4. But whatever you do, by all means, do exactly what you want to do! It's your car, and you should build it the way you want!

Actually, according to my PHS docs, it stated the Verdoro Green was a special order color available at that time. It's one of the reasons I was thinking about it... At least it would period correct. -If this is incorrect info, I will need clarification-just going by what I read in my documents.
Additionally, while the car is being built for my wife's graduation gift (and she has input into the build as well)- we always like to err on the side of caution when doing a project car. Lots of people seem to like gold- not sure if Champagne Gold in particular- but I've also had some odd reactions to Green... Most any other color but red would be fine, I think, just want to be able to sell should the need ever arise. Don't want an "ugly" color to damage future value is all. |

All the sheet metal has been ordered! Yippee.
Now I'm wondering if I should order the rest of the crap I'll need to get this project finished to go along with my metal order to save on shipping... I'll need full interior, and I'm thinking about all new wire harnesses to avoid any issues with 40+ year old wires... Any other things I should be looking at that I might have missed? I need the experts to chime in...

Don't consider anything other than Legendary for the interior or you'll be sorry.

I've seen all of the posts regarding Legendary v. PUI... I've never had an issue with PUI but if this many Pontiac owners swear buy Legendary, then I will go with Legendary.
If anyone has other input as to what they would add to my order where they in my position please speak up and let me know... I have about a week to get all of my stuff together so any and all input is welcome.

As for adding to your order...I would like to add a Butler or KRE 447ci stroker setup and a set of ported Edelbrocks. Add on a repro aluminum tri power manifold, ported to match the Edelbrocks. I can PM my address to you so you know where to send the stuff when it comes in ![]() You said any input is welcome ![]()

Thanks for the input.
![]() I was looking at the complete interior kit from Legendary offered by our host. It seems complete on first glace but since this is my first old Pontiac, I am not sure if I'm missing anything in this package deal. |

I have a '67 hardtop Goat (Montreaux Blue on blue interior, black vinyl top) that I restored to how it was exactly when it was driven brand-new out of the dealership. My vote for you is to go with the original paint, interior and exterior. That Champagne color is really rare, there were ZERO cars with that color at the GTOAA national show last year in Portland. I've been into the GTO hobby since '96 and I've still never seen a champagne GTO, Tempest, or LeMans. One thing you could do to give it some variation from pure stock is to (as I mentioned), paint the interior the stock champagne color, but do everything else (seats, carpet, door panels, dash-pad, etc) in black. That would look pretty cool IMHO. Another variant you could do with the black/gold interior I mentioned above would be a black vinyl top. Another way you could go is to paint the interior the stock champagne as I mentioned earlier, but go with parchment seats, etc., and a white vinyl top. If you replace the window cranks, do not trash them. Someone will want them for sure no matter what the condition. Good luck! Looks great so far!

I'm definitely going with Legendary. I was just looking in my catalogs and posted a new thread since I could not really find anything regarding front bench seats... I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what I can find out... No rush. I'll probably order in October... Last year in October I ran into a Legendary rep and he told me it was the best time to order as they slow down coming into the colder months and are more inclined to do a discounted rate... Now he's speaking my language..LOL
As for the color, I've spoken with the body shop and they told me I'll change my mind 5 more times before it's all over. And I think I'm at ten times already. I've tried to look for pics on the different Gold variations and frankly I'm not a huge fan... All my cars are black. Just seems like the color really highlights the body lines.... Gold just doesn't get there for me... That being said, I've seen the pics of Andre's car (gold/gold) and it was very nice. Tiger Gold, I believe.... I've also seen signet gold in a few pics... Champagne gold reminds me of the insurance commercial where the company is crashing cars at a test facility and there's two little kids "helping" and cheering as the testers crash the cars... And the kid says to the guy "crash the the tan one" and the guy responds " That's desert sand micha" and the kid says "whatever, just crash it!" I wonder if there are any variations in the paint that would make it pop... Mine came with a black pinstripe so that's something. ![]() gtobully: On a side note, I am really intrigued by the fact that you mention this color is rare... Is it rare because no one ordered it? Or because people have repainted them because it was ugly? LOL I like to have oddball stuff. I hate it when I go to a car show and all I see is the same stuff over and over Mustangs and Camaros... Don't get me wrong, they're pretty cars but they're just too common. I like to see stuff that's different. Maybe you'll talk me into the champagne afterall..

I forgot to put up a few pics. Not much progress yet, but I had the steering box mounted and the column temporarily reinstalled to be able to move the car around. The front drums have not been blasted or painted yet so they look rusty.. Also had the chance to shoot a few pics of the Tempests' neighbor... Enjoy.

No updates as my none of my sheet metal has arrived...
![]() I tried to call PY on Friday and it just rang and rang.... I hope someone will be there on Monday. Getting antsy to see new metal on the car... Here's a few pics of me trying out a tire we were thinking about... |

Well, finally my sheet metal arrived last Wednesday. I'm not sure how to feel about it as I had to be at work and my body shop accepted the whole order but, then complained that several metal parts were all bent up. They claim they can fix it all but, of course it's me who has to pay them...
![]() Anyway, I got Friday off so I could go to the shop and shoot some pics and they showed me how the boxes were stacked with the flimsy quarter skins at the bottom of the pile! I'm not sure who to be angry with PY or UPS... So, there I am taking pics. I get two pics into it and the camera runs out of battery!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I managed to get a pic of the full floor that was bent in the corners... The full trunk was nearly folded in half and they already "unfolded" it. Additionally, the quarter skins look like they've been walked on. They have indentations and high and low spots visible to the naked eye right out of the box. I didn't expect them to be that bad but I guess it's what is available.. Finally, they showed me the lower quarter patches that I had also ordered -that I was told I would need as the skins were for a 66-mine is a 67-- and they are identical to the skins!! I don't need those parts... $150 in metal I don't need... I called PY back and asked if they would cover the return shipping.... After dropping this much coin and waiting 3 weeks and getting stuff that was not in the best condition, I hope that is not asking too much. They're supposed to get back with me on Monday. We'll see.... Here's the pics I managed to get: Notice the bends in the front corners of the full floor and the "RPR" paper on the quarter skins- my shop thinks that this means the panels had been repaired... If they were, I can't imagine what they looked like before. |

Since this is supposed to be a restoration thread, I suppose I should post an update ince in a while.... Lately, it's all bad news or no news...
My body shop is dragging their feet or rather the 69 vert they have there is dragging their feet for them. Chock full of little issues that keep that damned car from leaving so that they can focus on my car... Oh well, at least I have the sheet metal ready to go. On another note, I have discovered that Legendary will not be covering my seats after all. I spoke with them the other day and they told me that they do not have the template for the split front bench like I have (sans the armrest) So, I guess I'm SOL and will have to use PUI.... The good news I have is that I found a media blaster that is a car guy and blasted my seat frames and a new posi rear end we sourced. (He does good, quick work and came in cheaper than his quote!!) I picked that stuff up today and drop off my hood and deck lid as well as a bunch of other misc items. Started priming the springs and rear end and ran out of primer and paint.... And my spray painting finger is now sore.... LOL . I'll try and get some pics up soon. Just remembered that I purchased some recommended epoxy and we've been doing some testing on the grilles and steering wheel. I'll post some pics of that too! |
