Default Anybody have "ghosts"?

First off,I'm not crazy or depressed, and I don't drink or do drugs (well at least since the 80's ).
I've been in my current home about 16 years now. I work 3rd shift,so many nights I'm up late alone on the weekends reading or on the net. From what I remember, starting about 1 1/2 -2 years ago I would often hear my wife get up at night and walk into the bathroom that is in our 2nd floor master bedroom. These 2 rooms are directly above my 1st floor front room where I read and where my PC is. I never thought much about it. I did find it a little odd that I never hear the toilet flush though.
A few weeks back my wife asks me one day why I get up so much during the day to walk around our bedroom, and use our bathroom. I sleep during the day,and she spends most of her time in our 1st floor front room too. I told her I almost NEVER wake up while sleeping. Nothing more was mentioned of it by her.
A few days ago I leave for work on 3rd shift, and leave my 12 year old step son home with my 4 month old and 4 year old. All the other kids are gone (I have 7). My wife was to get home about 1/2 hour later. When my wife shows up at home my 12 year old asks her who is upstairs in her bedroom walking around? The 4 month old was in his arms, the 4 YO was in the 1st floor back room watching TV. He said he has heard this a number of times too.
So my wife tells me what she thinks may be going on a few days back. I tell her how I always found it strange that I hear her walking, but never flushing. She tells me except for a few times when she was pregnant she never gets out of bed at night. Hmmmm...
I sat down with my 12 YO and wife and asked them what they hear. They tell me it sounds like a bed squeek or floorboard squeek followed by a series of distinct foot steps. This is EXACTLY what I hear every time. It's almost like a tape playing over and over when I hear it.1 squeek like somebody getting out of a squeeky bed, then footsteps.
I KNOW these are not house settling noises or wind,or whatever, they are as clear as if somebody where walking up to you on a hardwood floor.
No other issues beyond that. The house is a bright, happy, comfortable place, not some old Bates motel looking deal. It is also not a scary thing when it happens, just WEIRD. I have not heard it since I talked to my wife about it.
If it is something "paranormal". The only thing I can think of is that I bought this house off of a widow. She could not keep up with the house or yard anymore. While talking to her before I bought the house she said her husband died in the master bedroom suddenly one night while in bed. She said he had a heart attack. This fact never bothered me.
So...........this is all new to me. Never dealt with anything like this before. Just curious if anybody else has had anything like this happen to them?
PS,I'm NOT making this up,nor am I nuts.

I would jump to the conclusion of paranormal last. Could the heat be kicking on and be causing some thermal expansion? Just saying you could do some investigating yourself to look for a more reasonable conclusion.

But, with that being said. I'm a Christian so it kind of a pre-requisite to believe in ghosts.

My first house was haunted. The rpevious owner had a kid with drug problems. he died in the house. We would get weird thrings like what sounded like a ball bearing drop on a table and roll on the baby monitor each night at the same time. I dont remember all the other things but there were quite a few unexplained sounds and things durrin gthe five years we lived there.

I do remember waking up a few times and feeling a strong presence in the room. That was scarey.

When we put the house up for sale, things started breaking all over the place. Waterline busted, the roof started leaking....all sorts of stuff. Its like the spirit that was still in house didin twant us to leave.

Seriously though, my neighbors had their place checked for paranormal activity, and they used some sort of way to make a determination.
We had a couple rodents between floors once.. but the Dog, Finally, after being scared at first, the Dog got on the mission! ( house 1862)

(1) I'm not sure we have ghosts, but I was in bed and right at 5 am something slammed the floor joist directly underneath my bed. It's over an unfinished part of the basement and there are only two of us living here. It felt/sounded like something the size of your thumb wrapped in electric tape about 3' long. WHAP/THUD all in one!

(2) Four of us lived in a big house out in the country on 5 acres of wooded land. Two of us were watching TV in a room after dark. There is a flight of wooden steps outside that came up to a wooden back deck and back door where we were. We both heard heavy foot steps coming up the back deck steps. After about 6-7 steps (about half way up) one of us said, "That sounds like Glen." Glen was about 260 lbs. It was someone heavier than either of the other 2 room mates coming up the steps. When the foot steps stopped we waited for someone to knock. But nobody knocked. We looked at each other for a second or two confused. Silence. I jumped up and ran to open the door and hit the outside light to see who it was before they could start back down the steps. There was nobody there. We went down the steps. Nobody, and they didn't have time to go back down anyway.

rohrt, definitely not the heat kicking on,water heater, ect,or floor boards squeeking just from rubbing. Too much of a pattern to it,and it's way too clear and loud to mistake.

Mike, sorry if this is a repost,I don't remember seeing ANY post on ghosts/noises out side of one Pontiac Petey had a few years back. I can't say that I read every thread here, and up until a few days ago I can't say if I would have had an interest in a "ghost" thread anyway. I didn't do a search on the subject either though.

Poncho V8,now when you heard somebody coming up the steps, was there any way it could have been something else, and maybe you just thought it was footsteps? I'm guessing no, right? That is what I'm trying to say. 99.9% sure it is footsteps. On top of the fact that I hear it sometimes twice a night when home. Not saying it happens every night I stay up,but have heard the same thing countless times.
Now that 2 others here have heard it,I'll pay more attention to it to see if it happens at certain times ant try to figure out a way if I can explain it as something else.
I'm going to be gone for a week,so it will take a while.

I'd take note of what time it happens if there is a certain time. I'd keep it to myself too.

There was never anything else that ever sounded the same as footsteps on those stairs and it was consistent with every other time before and after of someone walking up them. They were attached to the wall on the back of the house and ended on the side of the deck where the back door was that entered the room we were sitting in.

I used to do night time pest control in restaurants after closing. We had keys to places to come and go as we needed. One night two of us were sitting in the bar of one place drinking a Coke during a break. This is an old farm mansion/plantation house that's reported to be haunted called the Baker-Peters House. It's on Dixie Lee Hwy and built before the War for States Rights and belonged to a doctor then. There was nearby battle and an attack on the house during the war. I believe it was used as a hospital. There're still musket ball holes in doors. Well upstairs we heard something being dragged across the floor and no crap it sounded like a heavy chain. It went long enough for us to confirm with each other that it sounded like a chain with something metal attached to it. Nobody was there except us and we went up to find nothing and no explanation. Later I heard a loud crash up there. Scared us again but it really scared the other guy who was right next to it when it did that--it was an ice machine spilling the ice into the hopper. It wasn't what we heard the first time and we never figured out what that was. Lots of haunting reports on that house.

Go to Best Buy buy yourself a dvr (digital voice recorder) their about $40. Set it in your house or in the room with all the footsteps then press record when your not home. You will be surprised what you catch if your house has ghost. Take it from experience them mics can catch a lot of sounds even footsteps.

I'm a believer.

We joke about ghost here all the time. I have a grandfather clock that's well over 100 y.o. in the living room that routinely opens it's door even though I've placed pennies under the front corners of it so that it pitches back against the wall.

I saw one up in main in a B&B about 20 years ago - just a little boy standing in a doorway, looked real enough to me.

Always and have periodically all of my life. I bought my home place and it's had 170 yrs of my family living / dying in it. Activity increase when a family member is sick or is about to pass on.

Note if the activity increases around the Equinoxes or Solstices.

A DVR with infrared capabilities will catch a lot as suggested above.

Then again you may not want to know what you share your home with.

We had a ghost in our house up in Ft. Covington, NY. We were told to repaint the room he died in and he'd leave. It worked.

Me and a buddy left his house right at midnight new years eve years ago. I would bet the second we were at the top of the hill it was midnight. All of a sudden the entire inside of my car lit up. Glowing. He bent down and could see clearly under the seat to the back floor board. We looked at each other and then it was gone.....

Summer of 1995, I was staying with my grandfather in his house in Louisiana. My grandmother had died behind the house in the pond in 1987. She had a VERY distinct footstep which was kind of a half step/half shuffle. The house was built in the 40's and I was alone that night.

Starting in the kitchen at the other end of the house, I heard her footsteps. They came down the length of the hall and stopped at my door - which then opened, dragging on the floor as the wood flooring was warped. ( old pier and beam house ) The footsteps came into my room, turned right, started towards the other door ( into the next bedroom ), THAT door opened, and they continued into that bedroom. No other sounds afterwards. Just pitch blackness and two open doors when they used to be closed.

about 1992, again in the summer, my cousin and I were standing about 15-20 feet from the kitchen window, in the dirt driveway. We're talking, and then he goes silent in the middle of a sentence. I look over and see him staring into the kitchen window, looking at our grandmother, looking back at us. Some seconds later, she turns from the window and walks away.

about 1988, I'm asleep in bed. I come wide awake as if someone had slapped me. First thing I see is my grandmother's outline not three feet from my bed. It fades away.

I'm a Christian man and I believe the Bible. I believe that once we die we go one of two places, and that no one wanders the earth as a spirit afterwards. Having said that, I know something was in the house all three times, but I do not believe it was my grandmother.

I don't know what it was.

Britt

The house I grew up in was bulit around the 1870s, old two story farm house with enclosed stairway to the second floor bedrooms. While growing up we never had any thing happen. After my father passed and my mother moved out it was just my sister and I living there. House was quieter most of the time. We had bedrooms upstairs and if we stayed upstairs not moving much with nothing on, like reading in bed, after a few hours we could hear distint foot steps down stairs walking around. As soon as we would get up they would stop. Very repeatable and happened frequently. I know of at least one man that died in the house, he was badly injured while cutting hay with a horse drawn haymower. He was working on it when the horses spoked and took off, he was dragged on the sickle and was cut up very badly, died in the house the next day. Never bothered us and I have torn that house down and bulit on the same spot with nothing strange happening in this house in 19 years.

Cool Nobody has ghosts..

Nor "paranormal activity," because such things don't exist. Whatever is the cause of the happenings in your house, there's a logical, real world explanation.

P.S. Mike, why does an infrared DVR work? Have ghosts gone beyond the visible spectrum?

Also, why would ghosts be especially active around the equinox and solstice?

Hey did you guys hear about "the hook?"
