My wife had a joke at me while driving today .
I asked why does she not like driving in the GTO .Her reply was "we yell at each other to talk". So the joke went around and around until i said what about sound proofing .
So first thing does sound proofing work in these old cars ( convertible )

Craig, there are several very good soundproofing products on the market and they DO make a difference. However, with your top down you'll limit the effectiveness a bit. I think there are a few threads on this board on the subject.

Ummm, a soundproof convertible, I think you'll be fighting a losing battle Craig.
You can apply all the soundproofing you want to the floor, but once that top is down, I would think it's all out the window!

Get a new Wife, mine loves it loud, it's all part of the experience.

I use the Eastwood stuff, On a Rag top with the top up a convertible top insulator can work pretty well

Lizard Skin makes a spray on sound deadner and a ceramic coating for the heat. I am strongly considering doing it to my car.

I used the Frost-King duct insulation that you can buy at Lowes, or Home Depot. Comes in a 12" x 15' roll. It's an 1/8" thick, sticky foam type material on one side and metal backed. I used two rolls to do the inside of the firewall, both floorboards, the tunnel, and the partition behind the rear seat. You have to work at it, but it will lay and conform to the goofy shapes that are in the 2nd gen. F-body floorpans.

I then installed new carpet over top of that. The results are absolutely amazing. I'm running headers, 3" pipes, single chamber flowmasters with dumps. Before with the stock tar paper stuff you'd have to yell to hear each other. Now you can carry on a normal conversation at 60mph. I've driven 50 miles round trip in the car and it helps with the heat coming off of the headers as well.

I paid 18.00 dollars a roll. I plan on getting another roll to do the doors, and package tray.

6x400gmc ...wow, great idea. Anyone else used this stuff? Many times I've seen standard industrial products repackaged and sold at a preminum to hobbiest ..... that stuff looks just like some of the high priced "speciality" products I've seen for insulating floors. Can't think of a downside so far.
