Matt,
I still don't have the AC belt and compressor on, I guess I could get you a shot of it from the top right. Is that what you'd like? Charles |

I'm wondering if there is a generic round rubber belt out there that could be substituted. Many years ago I installed a similiar but not as big a belt on a late 70's Hoover upright vacuum cleaner.
In the 90's, my old friend Quint Stires (RIP) tipped me to a '69-72 Pontiac concours detailing part that could be bought at local Maytag repair shop. It might be time to search through the McMaster Carr catalog.

Wow, Quint Stires is a name I haven't heard in a coon's age!
Anyway, Charles, I just want to see a profile view of the balancer/pulley setup all bolted together with the o-ring in-play...I am still struggling with WTH that is really DOING... joeg, your description was helpful, but this piece of rubber is different than the rubber associated with the annuar (vulcanized?) rubber between the 'weight ring' and the sheet metal retainer. Man I swear, I don't know anything about these cars sometimes!!

Matt,
Here you go. Second picture is AC pully. This is why I say it is only for debris protection. Charles |

Now it makes sense! And would you say it goes on all 67 a/c cars@ Even the different numbered pulleys?
And, do you have one of these mystery o rings for sale? Mike. |

Charles, thanks.
Man, given the centrifugal forces when the engine's running, I am surprised that ANY debris has a chance to collect there.

I had to find the correct crank pulleys to convert my '66 vert to AC. I pulled them from a parts car and it had the rubber ring sandwiched between the two crank pulleys as shown in the pics. It was not just a '67 thing and I agree with "grrowl" who posted previously that they go back at least to the '64 set-ups.

I want to thank everyone who has posted on this issue.
I may try to fashion one out of rubber or look for a substitute. I may just put it together without it. Anyway, thanks again everyone. I hope we all have learned a little on this minor subject. Mike. |

Bringing an old thread back to life.
Were you able to find a replacement O ring for this set up? I have a '67 engine in the shop now & doing some of the detailing on it. While the o ring is there, it's starting to split. I hate to take it out only to find none available. |

A few months ago I took apart a 1960 engine (code S1) that had AC and the stacked 2+1 crank pulley.. It also had the rubber O ring between them..
