Default pertronix question

been reading the archives for couple hrs but am still unsure of which pertonix i have in my 72 firebird, it was installed in 01 by prev owner , it has no numbers on it but has module and mag ring that goes thru wts. is this the orig ignitor or ignitor2.
it is hooked up with black wire to - side and red to + side along with black and yellow on + side. it only has 9.5v on + side when running so thats what im wondering if it should be hu with 12v, it runs OK. also using pertronix flamethrower coil to match.
is it worth while to change the wiring if it needs 12v like the ign2 does like i said it seems to run OK ,thks.

I have the original Pertronix I put in back in 2000. Mine has 12v running to the coil. I used a Super coil, so the instructions said I needed to add a one ohm resistor to the circuit. I used a Chrysler ballast resistor. IIRC, the instructions said if you're using the Pertronix coil, you could wire it direct, but need a 12v key switched source. The yellow/black wire has a resistor built in so it does'nt fry the points. That's why you don't have a constant 12v with the car running. I ran my wire right off the fuse box, where there was an open 12v ignition on terminal. My pertronix also needs to be energized for at least 5 seconds before you can crank on it and have spark.
