Been saying this for years. It's so obvious when NASCAR throws a yellow flag in order to get a few TV commercials in, or to tighten up the field to artificially create an "exciting ending". Surprisingly, many people refused to admit NASCAR was intentionally throwing caution flags. Yet time and time again, when a mysterious "debris" caution occurs, the TV cameras and the announcers can never find the actual debris. Many times the announcers don't even acknowledge what the yellow flag was thrown for.

A couple weeks ago, a mysterious caution flag was thrown, and again, no one found the "debris". Coincidentally, Mike Helton (NASCAR President) just happened to have climbed 4 stories up to the TV broadcast booth for an interview and an announcement. Even the commentators joked sarcastically, "Hey, you showed up just in time for a yellow flag!"

They didn't fool anyone.

Last Saturday nights ridiculous Richmond VA race seemed to FINALLY open people's eyes to the fact that NASCAR determines the outcome of a race more often than the drivers do.

As a NASCAR fan I have to admit that the last couple of races before Richmond were boring. I'm thinking that the restarts, with the lapped cars at the back and the lead lap cars side by side at the front, might be part of the reason.
Also ,if the start and park guys weren't even in the race it would be better even if it meant only 35 cars or so were starting.

The fans complained about the last 3 races there was too many long green flag runs and not as exciting as a wreckfest, well don't think NASCAR isn't listening to their fans even when they complain about too many cautions for debris and wrecks. So now there aren't enough cautions or wrecks and they bitch about that too.

Be careful what you ask for, NASCAR might be listening and give it to ya.

Just throw the cautions when they're warranted, and not when you think the fans are getting bored.

How many times has the TV caught Edwards throwing a water bottle out of his car to cause a caution, make him sit a week out and see if he continues to throw out his water bottle.

I'm no fan of contrived cautions such as a few years ago Jr was about to go a lap down and he flat out spun his car and it was so obvious NASCAR asked him if he intentionally spun out, I have to give him credit because he answered the question truthfully and admitted he did in fact spin out to keep from going a lap down. He was dealt with and penalized for his action, trouble is you can't penalize the people that own the series for messing with the race for throwing unneeded cautions that sometimes affect the outcome of the race.

Don't think for a minute with the economy in the toilet and many long time NASCAR sponsors either scaling back or dropping out completely NASCAR isn't trying to keep there fan base as large as possible. After all small tracks and small sanctioning bodies in every form of motorsports are dropping at an alarming rate, NASCAR wants to make sure they aren't a casualty too.

That last caution probably cost Tony Stewart a win and he was very vocal about them throwing a caution for a plastic water bottle...........You can please some of the people some of the time, however not all the people all of the time, truer words were never spoken..............

Look at a baseball game and tell me how many empty seats you see there, just as high a percentage of stick and ball sports and movie theaters have empty seats. It's a sign of the economics and BTW, NASCAR gained this year as the worries about the so called improved economy have eased a tiny bit.

Same rhetoric as last time, in case you haven't noticed the people that enjoy NASCAR still watch it and all the attacks have no effect on them watching it. NASCAR is still in business, and Jr still hasn't won a race yet.

I was at the race. It wasn't a bad turnout considering it rained all day and only cleared about 40 minutes before race start. I'm sure a lot of people decided to pass since it was so cold and the chance of rain was high. If I didn't have a bunch of family members going to their first race I would have stayed home.

The caution did seem like bs but the edwards restart seemed even more iffy.

My brother in law's solution to improve NASCAR ratings:

last qualifier has to run the race driving in the opposite direction.....Imagine a Polish victory lap at speed with 42 cars coming at you....

Sounds like a day on I 95, doesn't it???

If you have no talent to drive a fast car around corners, or don't enjoy seeing cars tradin paint, and have a really short attention span, there's always drag racing, golf, baseball, football, etc. Everything else is just a game..........

If you enjoy fast cars going around corners and have an attention span of longer than 15 seconds, oval track or road racing might suit you better. The people that are on NASCAR threads and lovin it aren't gonna change their minds, because just like telling your kids not to date a certain person, speaking out against it only makes their resolve stronger.

I wouldn't walk across the street to watch a superbowl game, the stanley cup, the world series, or any stick and ball sport for free, let alone pay to see it. If they are on my TV as I'm scanning I just turn the station to something I wanna watch. I however never wait for one of those other sports threads to spew my negative feelings towards some sport that someone else finds enjoyable. That isn't my style and I wouldn't glean any pleasure from spewing negativity towards those that enjoy that sport. Not sure why a NASCAR thread gets the same members spewing negativity each and every time.

Don't like it, don't watch it.

Don't have anything positive to say, find another thread you can contribute to. It's really simple to not waste your effort trying to change peoples minds that aren't going to change their minds no matter what you say about their past time.

They run 2 road races per year and have been since the early 60s, so your a fan now?

Sonoma and Watkins Glen are both road races in case you just landed on this planet.......
