Default NASCAR races at Talladega

Gotta love Tony Stewart's sarcastic comments about Sunday's Talladega race (which had very few yellow flags) as he responded to the media's comments that fans were disappointed there weren't more wrecks:

"Honestly, if we haven't crashed at least 50 percent of the field by the end of the race, we need to extend the race until we crash at least 50 percent of the cars," Stewart said after climbing from his car. "It's not fair to these fans to see any more wrecks than that, any more torn-up cars. I mean, we still had over half the cars running at the end, and it shouldn't be that way."

"If we could make [Talladega] a Figure 8, it would absolutely be perfect here. It would be better than what we have."

"I'm upset that we didn't crash more cars. That's what we're here for. I feel bad if I don't spend at least $150,000 in torn-up race cars going back to the shop. We've definitely got to do a better job at that."

"That's what the fans want, they want to see that excitement. I feel bad that as drivers, we couldn't do a better job of crashing enough cars for them today."

"The racing was awesome. It's fun to be able to race and have to watch the gauges at the same time. It just adds that much more. Being able to make yourself run on the apron and everything to try to get clean air, it makes it fun."

On another note, NASCAR's love affair with Danica Patrick continues, as she intentionally dumps Sam Hornish Jr. into a wall at high speed in retaliation. No fine, no points deducted, not even a trip to the NASCAR hauler, and yet she did EXACTLY what Kyle Busch did last year to Ron Hornaday during a truck race, when Kyle deliberately rammed Hornaday into a wall.

Watch this video clip, and tell me (honestly) if Danica didn't deserve to be reprimanded....

Hornish pushed her into the wall."the car wouldn't turn any more" , BS, it turned OK in the next corner(till she slapped you in the nuts).

OMG. I can't believe I just defended the little princess.

But even if Hornish DID push her into the wall (they don't call him Swervin' Sam for nothing!), angry drivers seeking retaliation usually come up next to that driver and bang their doors. At the very most, they will spin them around while they're doing 40 mph to show their displeasure. Danica rammed Hornish and sent him hard into the wall while they were still slowing down from a 200 mph straightaway. They were still doing 150 mph when Danica rammed him.

And NASCAR didn't even ask her to go to the hauler after the race? Seriously?

Other drivers can just bang bumpers for 2 laps, and NASCAR will make them go to the hauler. Just looking for some consistency here. But I guess with Danica, she could kick a driver in the nuts, ram 4 cars, then use profanity, and NASCAR will ignore their little media darling. They're already calling this "The Danica Rules", as in she gets special treatment because of her status, and the money she's bringing into the sport.

More like, "the gloves are off". NASCAR wants retaliation ON TRACK because the fans said they want it.

If he really had a right front down at that speed she didn't need to touch him, He was going to nail the wall anyway.

Regarding Tony Stewart's remarks: It sure is funny how his opinion has changed since he became car owner and has to pay to repair the damaged cars. Unlike his Gibbs racing days, when Joe paid the bills.
Regarding Kyle Busch and Hornaday: When Kyle wrecked him, Ron Hornaday was racing for a Championship! Totally different situation than some BS retaliation by a couple of back of the packers!
On Danica and Sam:The NASCAR Officials were probably surprised that both Hornish Jr and Danica were still running and going to finish the race, which is rare for the both of them, that they let it go.

Post Open wheel drivers

Have to laugh at all these open wheel drivers coming to NASCAR thinking they can make some big noise. Juan takes out a jet-drier trying to race hisself under caution and now Sam goes from the penthouse (winning Indy) to the outhouse when a girl b*tch slaps him into the wall for repayment, maybe there's some open wheel envy going on here, no different than the Andretti's and Unser's in their day tring to get into the "bootlegger" sport.

Wrong on 2 accounts, Tony never took out anyone til they messed with him first when he drove for Gibbs or now. I take it you missed when he and Vickers were having an on track disagreement at Sonoma and Tony ended up on top of the tire barrier last season????????

I follow Tony each and every week in NASCAR, and because we live within a 100 miles of Eldora we get to see him race there on dirt when he has enough time in his schedule. The first weekend in April we watched him run with the All Star Sprints in Northern Ohio and he isn't the one that usually starts feuds, but if he feel you screwed him on the track he will definitely retaliate, not a doubt in my mind. Last few laps of the feature he and a younger driver were going at it and the guy did something that didn't sit well with Tony and when they were coming into the pits after the race Tony hit the guys car and ended up rolling over his own car, of which he fully owns, Haas has no stake in that outlaw sprint car whatsoever.

Speaking from personal experience I've wrecked other cars and my own when I was wearing all the hats, owner, driver, crew chief, and ended up working all week to put it back together plus paying out of pocket for parts. Your not weighing out the work and the money involved when someone takes you out, that is all trivial when the adrenalin is flowing and it never enters your mind. Making sure they aren't going to finish any better than you do is what is the prime motivation at that moment. Is it right?, no but it's all your thinking of at that moment. The last thing on my mind was what's this gonna cost and how long am I gonna be working on it.

Easy there, Killer! I agree Tony was never one to instigate trouble and is known as a clean racer. He has matured over the years but he still is quick tempered. But you can't convince me that it never enters his mind before he retaliates, now that he's an owner. When he was younger he had a very quick temper and had his share of run-ins, skirmishes and damaged equipment. His 'incidents' have decreased as he's gotten older.

Stewarts comments are because he as many others that race Sprint cup are tired of NASCARs half assed fixes to try to keep their white elephant tracks viable. The superspeedways are Bill France Srs ego trips to best Indianapolis speedway in bigger and better, problem is he never envisioned the dramatic increases in performance and speed that would escalate and make those tracks very unsafe to race at today and for many years previously.

When the first race at Talladega was run the drivers boycotted the race because even though they hadn't even ran a race the drivers were feeling unsafe when they practiced the cars. Eventually NASCAR implemented the restrictor plates at these 2 tracks (Daytona and Talladega) as a temporary fix which they still haven't come up with anything better to this day. Tearing the tracks up to re configure them has been discussed but no one wants to pay the bill to do that so the drivers owners and crews are stuck with 2 racetracks that have most likely one permanent answer to fix the problem that no one wants to pay for.

Each race this comes to light and NASCAR puts on their thinking caps and assure everyone the have an answer to the problem, next time around it's just as bad if not worse and one common denominator is a bunch of wrecked racecars. Tony speaks for more than himself when he spoke out, everyone's tired of NASCARs token fixes to a huge problem at both tracks.

UM, New Hampshire is not nearly as long as either track and has virtually no banking and they run restrictor plates there too.

I think I cited plenty of reasons that bear out what I said, it never enters his mind on track as it never did with me when I raced, and just a month ago I saw him wreck his own sprintcar in retaliation for an on track incident. FYI a sprintcar is easily $100,000 investment so nope it never entered his mind. He was blind with rage as any driver that is in retaliatory mode, been there done that myself.

What his beef was about is the carnage that needs to stop at supperspeedways and there needs to be a permanent solution instead of a band aid on the wound that has festered too long, see previous post for more about this problem.

Used one race only, here's the reason for the abbreviated use at New Hampshire:

Sep-00
New Hampshire
1 inch
Bobby Labonte
127.632
Jeff Burton
Used to slow cars down, in response to deaths of Irwin and Petty. Track Record is 132.089mph

BS, Tony is a putz. Like I said before, he is now, and forever will be a putz. He might be able to drive, but he is an idiot, almost as bad as the Bushy boys. I have already shown you where Tony instigates, not just retaliates. Do I need to show you again?

It was one race only, it was a knee-jerk reaction to Adam Petty dying in turn 3.

I was there and it had to be the most boring follow the leader race I have ever seen in my life! Good thing we had fun in the campground, because the race was horrible.

If he was as bad as you claim he would have no respect in the garage area, that isn't so. I believe I follow his career closer much than you do and it's just not a fact. Citing one clip isn't going to condemn him, sorry not buying it.

Hey Bob you better look there's script there too, and when you have driven a race car not just sat in your living room and criticize then I'll take you seriously.

The perspective is much different if you ever sat in a drivers seat.

Lalalala is because I've heard it all before, SOS.

Don't you have some 48 stickers to put on your car or sumpthin.
