I was wondering the same thing.I work in an independent shop, and we never see new vehicles in there until they are at least 3 years old, with over 36,000 miles.

Ford's powertrain warranty is only good for 60,000 miles.

A guy that uses his truck can easily put on 50,000+ miles per year.

Ford sold over 15,000 of them in September of 2011 - thats 17 - 18 months ago. Someone that bought one when they were first introduced would only have had to put 3300- 3400 miles on per month to be out of the short Ford powertrain warranty.

If the Ford dealer hasn't been able to fix the problem under warranty, why would you continue to bring it to them and pay dealer shop rates?

If you google "F150 Ecoboost Problems", you will get plenty of results with unsatisfied F150 owners.

Ummmm... did I miss something? It's May 2012. 8 months ago! A guy would have had to put on 7500 miles a month. Possible, yes- likely, no.

Make that September 2010 - when the 2011 F150's Ecoboosts hit the street.

I was trying to be conservative saying 17 - 18 months. Actually for the first one's it's been 20 months - which is only 3,000 miles per month.

Bottom line, there are plenty of Ecoboosts that are out of warranty and there are problems with these engines.

287K on my '99 Ford Power Stroke 7.3 and no codes ever. Finally sold it because I thought I was starting to live on borrowed time. Power Strokes after that were krap.

i bought a new f350 king ranch 4 x 4 dually last july and now have 27k on it. i love it. it has not had any problems and i am getting 12.4 mpg towing 25k load and getting almost 17 mpg empty. i have been dissapointed in the 60k warranty which bit me on the 2008 truck that i had at 62k.

However, 6.0s with aftermarket head studs and the egrs fixed are running SOBs at the track and some swear by 'em with those improvements. I'd consider a 6.0 Excursion with low miles in good condition for the family truckster -

Once Ford dealt with the injector,head gasket and EGR problems on the 6.0 PowerStrokes, they became pretty decent engines. They're not 7.3s by a long shot, but I would certainly take a 6.0 Ford/IH over the grenade known as the 6.2/6.5 GM diesel.

We had a contract with the DoD to reman the 6.2/6.5s used in the Hummers. Under light loads, the 6.2/6.5 does OK. Start "hammering" it and it starts falling apart starting with the crank breaking between #1/2 rod and #2 main. As long as you use aftermarket studs and GOOD head gaskets, the 6.0 Fords will run fairly well.

It's exceedingly rare that a 7.3 PSD never needed a camshaft position sensor replaced, Ron. They were notoriously failure prone, causing stalling and no-start complaints.
