Bill,

Have you heard any updates on "Doc" (the B-29 being restored by retired Boeing workers)?

Airworthy. The last thing I heard was they were trying to find engines and props. I guess they're trying to build the "hybrid" R-3350s like those on "FiFi"

Curious, is the Enola Gay restored to Armored specs ? These planes were a BEAST when fully plated. They were stripped of most of that when the Atomic missions were flown for weight savings.

FiFi's engines were replaced and running back in Aug of 2010. She was at MAAM June of 2011 for their WWII Weekend. Not sure about this year as I wasn't there.

I have a newfound respect for Paul Tibbets and the flying he had to to do in the Enola Gay to escape the blast radius of Little Boy.

Brian,

Standing a B-29 on one wing and pulling a near reversal turn had to have the airframe groaning.

I met Tibbets a year or so before he passed away. When he talked about the flying he had to do to get way from the blast he had a smile on his face. One cool guy that only did the job he was told to do. That's how he looked at it.
