The Dreaded melted fog light
So I was in the process of replacing my fog lights when I tried to pull out the bulb only to notice that the place where the bulb is held has melted.
LAME.
I have come up with a game plan to fix this and get some higher wattage bulb (H3) in the stock housing.
ALSO after doing some research I found a place that sells LED replacements for the stock 880 fog lamp
http://www.superbrightleds.com/vehic...irebird/48/524
The LED replacements produce less heat and will not melt the fog IMO, you could probably even jump up to a 893 bulb and or the 50W version and get more wattage but no to little heat because of the LEDs and no filament
Anyways back to fixing the melted fog light.
First thing I am going to do is remove the melted portion (pictures to come)
Then I am going to buy some cheap metal housing driving lights and hack them up to use the back and where the bulb mounts.
To connect the different style bulb I am going to cannibalize the base of the burnt out 880 bulbs and solder the H3 bulb connectors to those 880 bases, that way I dont mess with the stock wiring.
So as this project progresses I am going to posts pictures.

So finally uploaded the pictures:
Here are my foglights
note how the warped/melted place where the bulb should go
I marked off where I wanted to cut it
Then I cut it with a razor saw for plastic

Here is the foglight that I bought at Pepboys for 19 bucks for the pair.
I am going to cannibalize the rear portion of the housing
I mark where I want to cut it with a file, also note how the place where the bulb goes is similar in size and shape
So I cut it with my dremel
then I cut the sides off so it will mate up with the stock foglight cleanly

After I get the replacement piece all filed and clean, I fit check it. its pretty damn close to perfect
So out comes the JB weld (max temp rating of 450 should be good enough)
And one is done.
here is a comparison

the problem with the LT1 Trans Am lamp is that the housing is plastic (Im assuming there is an aluminum lining inside for the reflector, but its super thin), but the lens is glass so the glass is good, but the plastic isnt.
the LS1 Trans Am lamp is plastic/plastic and both melt.
I have seen some Hella replacements that are metal and glass, but they are $150+

did you see the Hellas in mine?
I love the light those put out.
Only danger is that if you run them too long and turn them off you cant see for a second until your eyes readjust.

still not sure what you are talking about.
Its this picture right?
and you are talking about the fogs on the red one in the middle?
or another one?
because if you converted to hella on the others I am really interested, since they are basically the same fog on the LS and LT versions, just the bracket is longer
