Before I drop in the rebuilt 455, I want to install a new clutch. The car weighs over 4000 lbs so I need a good one but I don't want to pay a fortune. What's a good brand name? Any good places online to buy one? Thanks

I would not run a heavy car like yours with any rear gears lower then 3.42 and a manual transmission. The lower the gear the harder on that clutch.
I recommend Centerforce: http://www.jegs.com/i/Centerforce/183/DF271739/10002/-1 Another thing to recommend is that you have your flywheel resurfaced to ensure a fresh new surface and make sure to follow the brake in instructions... means everything! I've had good luck with these and I'm sure there are other good options out there - but in my experience these work great. |

X2 on the Centerforce. I had one in my Plymouth and loved it.

X3 on the Centerforce Duel Friction.
But you must follow the break in instructions with them, I installed one in a freinds car a few years ago, and after about 50 miles he started doing bun outs with the car, and the clutch didn't last 1000 miles!!!!!!!! My 4600 lb Wagon has 3.23 gears and it works very nice in that car!!!!

I got 3.23 gears. I would like 3.42 but not sure how to swap out gears. That clutch looks nice but a little pricey. I can't remember ever doing a hole shot with this Grand Am and doubt I ever will. I'll have to shop around.

Don't put a cheap clutch in the car. You will not be satisfied. Also, do not forget to resurface the flywheel.
