O-port, 2" primaries, 2 1/4" secondaries and 3" or 3.5" collectors. This is the real deal, and they are done, ready to ship. Primaries are equal length. Pics of the template are in a thread from a few weeks ago in the 67-69 firebird tech section....just search tri-y. I dont have any pics yet of the completed set, but they match the quality everyone has come to expect from Tribal Tubes.

Aron - has anyone mocked these up against an IAII block. Maddog has some for first gen, but they don't jive w/ an IAII block.

How long are the primaries into the first Y? And the next section at 2.25"?
I am happy to hear Ron can make sets for a first gen bird. What about a 4" collector? Could make a good winter upgrade

Lou - maddog isnt a pontiac guy, Ron is. First off, we have to assume we are talking a standard deck IAII block, because a tall deck would lift the heads higher. On a standard deck block the main issue I can see would be the screw in freeze plugs. The plugs are available in 2 versions....one with an innie square drive hole, and one with an outtie. Also, the lip of the freeze plug hole itself stands out farther than a standard block. If these are the issues you refer to...........Ron's headers have plenty of clearance with the innie type, and PROBABLY enough with the outtie type but we dont have any to measure. I know of some that have switched plug types due to this issue. If however, you are referring to some other fitment type issue please let me know.
Ron - if I remember correctly the primaries run either 18" or 19"? I'll double check with Ron to make sure though. The secondary tubes are shorter. Yes, a 4" collector could be made, but there are a couple of issues. One...do you have the ground clearance? Two...going from 2.25" secondaries to a 4" collector is a huge change in volume. You would lose velocity fast, and potentially some benefit from the tube pulses merging would be lost. Ron has been researching header design and not just bending tubes. There is some evidence to indicate that even the 3.5" collector may be a little larger than necessary for ideal gas flow coming from a pair of 2.25" tubes.......and he has spoken about offering this header with both the 3.5" or the 3" collectors.....giving the choice to the customer. |

"16" & 16" at the longest & they are all within an inch (most likely 1/2") on each tube. I can make a merge type or megaphone collector that will end up at 3 1/2" for additional charge. A 4" can be done but I would need a few days to make the tooling for it. Merge collectors & cone collectors are not a one fits all thing. So there most likely would need different trials on the customers part to get it right for there combo. We will have testing done in the next few weeks but not sure if we will be able to get to any merge swaps on the dyno. It will be just getting a general baseline for future testing
Ron Watt Tribal Tubes" A set of 2" will be on the dyno very shortly as Ron said. |

How about 2" second gens?
Dyno testing against 2" 4 tubes? FWIW my Jardine 409 2" Tri Ys made over 600 hp so Ron;s should be able to support that also. When I get around to putting my next Pontiac E head motor together I'll dyno my Tri Ys vs a 1 3/4-1 7/8 step and a 1 7/8 OBX 4 tube I have.

Skip...the 2" 2nd gens are going on the dyno in a few weeks.
Thats actually the set we are referring to. But I have delayed the announcement on 2" 2nd gens because Ron is a little backed up with new orders and still trying to get the old orders produced one at a time. Its going to be a little while before the 1st gen 2" will be on the dyno. But honestly, they will perform pretty similarly as they have similar bends and tube lengths. I'm NOT sure if we can get the headers tested against a 4 tube set. I'm trying, but it wont be my decision.

I have a dyno set of Hooker 2" with EGT fittings if you all need a set and will pay shipping.
I actually think a 1 7/8-2" would be a good size-more applications.

appreciate that offer skip......but has more to do with the fact that it isnt my engine. As for size - Ron doesnt have 1 7/8" dies for his bender.

Cool, David let us know how they work. I am sure they are really good headers.
I was thinking it may be possible to go 2.5" on the second leg into the 4". I am looking at 7500 rpm 482 CI. Do you have the 3.5" collector?

Ron my engine wil be a 475 ci 4 inch stroke 4.35 bore. 7200 rpm and should diliver 700/ 730 hp!!. the headers where nearly done but me and Ron found out that my engine builder changed the fireing order. so he needs to build another set.... when i talk to Ron he has gained lots of nollige sins he first started building these headers. he is not a amature he knows his stuff!!......... the headers will have the 3,5 inch colecters . going bigger is no good considering the scaveging afect!!!!....

Do you know if these are available in a 2" primary and 3 1/2 collector for a 68-72 A body?

pggto.....the answer is yes, that design was just finished. And unlike your Doug's headers, these will fit with no modifications.
