Default Best place for temp switch?

The electric fan in my 73 T/A is controlled by a manual switch - aint the smartest setup, so want to change it for a thermostatic setup where the electric fan automatically comes on when it hits 180deg.

In terms of a location (other than the block) is the drain plug a good location to put a temperature switch for the electric fan? I'm looking to have the switch kick in at 180 and off at 160/170.

I'm looking to put in the bottom left corner of the radiator below:

If so, what size temp switch do I need based on the size of the magnetic drain plug below?

I was gonna post the same question and found your post. I was thinking of putting mine in the manifold near the thermostat. Is there a problem with that location? I realize most people are running a control at the radiator but those systems cost more than I care to pay but at the same time I dont want to sacrifice performance or reliability of the system.

Since that plug has a gasket, it's probably a straight thread; I think most senders/switches have a pipe thread, which is a tapered thread and does not use a gasket. It probably won't fit there.

Put the fan control switch in the water cross over between the heads.

I have a dual speed fan, and low kicks on at 180, high at 195. I have the 180 switch in the passenger head, and the 195 switch in the driver's head. I have a mechanical temp gauge in the intake water crossover.

My switches were threaded for 3/8 NPT. I had to get adapters (3/8 -> 3/4, I think?) to fit them in the head passages.
