The elastic on the shoulder harnesses was worn out and needed replacement. I went to a local fabric store and bought some new elastic, (On sale for $1.60). The upholstery shop that put my headliner in sewed the new elastic onto the belts for twenty bucks, so it only cost $21.60 to fix the shoulder belts. I had them sew two strips onto each belt in the hope they would not loose the elasticity too soon.

The new trunk mat arrived with the last group of parts I got so I dug out the jack and detailed it. All I need is a spare tire and the truck will be done.

Well the new seat covers finally arrived. I'm still waiting on the door panels, but hopefully I can get the seats done soon and get them into the car.

Package tray
In my never-ending quest to restore my sandlewood interior correctly, I have been struggling with the package tray colors. I had called to place my order and spoken to the tech line about the correct color. Unfortunately they don't always use the same color description, for instance they may call something sandlewood or tan, and that may change depending on the year car you are working on. Anyway, we decided on a part number and I had them ship it to me. When it arrived, it was the incorrect one, it was the vinyl one rather then the mesh one which I need in order to use speakers in the rear deck; however, the color of the vinyl on the deck portion was a dead-on match for the dark sandlewood, which is important because the rear metal strip under the rear window is painted that color. The vinyl strip that separates the package tray from the rear seat appears to be saddle, as it does not match the seat upholstery (tan) or the dark sandlewood ( a mocha color) used on other portions of the interior.
I called the tech line back to reorder the package tray in mesh and they do not used the same color descriptions for the mesh. They did have one they called sandlewood, so I ordered it and hoped for the best. The mesh portion of the new one is much lighter than the vinyl package tray, but the vinyl strip the separates the package tray to the seat upholstery is a very close match. Here are some pictures. The first one is of the vinyl package tray installed and the last one shows the mesh tray installed. These are PUI parts. The other pictures just show caparison of the different colors. The console door is painted the correct dark sandlewood. It would be nice if I could get the mesh tray in the same color as the vinyl package tray, and to have the vinyl strip match the seat fabric. I'm thinking that is how it is supposed to be. |

interesting
i checked my castilian bronze/sandalwood 70 formula RAlll it has a dark browinish tray and front and back trim, not sure how that got in there, maybe someone replaced it in years past with different/wrong color. actually looks pretty good. |

What paint and color did you use for the base plate on the jack, if I can ask? I'm going through my trunk now and fixing some things.

Thanks Eagle. That's looking good, keep the pics coming. Mine has a new trunk floor and I'm going to put an epoxy primer down this weekend... while waiting for one step or another to set I'm going to refurb some parts like that.

I installed the rear seat covers today. I had never done seat work before but the guy who installed my headliner told me I could save some money if I did the grunt work, so today I went to his shop and he walked me through the process. The seat cover fit very well, (he was impressed). I tore down the front buckets as well but can't finish them until next week. I went ahead and installed the rear seat and it looks real nice, much better in person than in the pictures.

nice work Chris, they look great! The front buckets will challenge you more than the rear but you can do it.

Good job, looks great!
When I went to purchase my covers from Legendary, they were still in need of an original set of rear custom covers, so I donated mine...It's kinda cool knowing my old covers helped with the development of their fine reproductions. I was also impressed with the fit of mine, although I didn't tackle that job myself. -Larry |

sweet! Both 70 Firebirds I owned with Sandalwood had a lighter package tray. The Sandalwood dilemma reminds me of the hassle I had with a 15th anniversary TA I was trying to get right 10 shades of gray inside was actually normal, but what was where?
