Front drum brakes
Does anyone know where I could purchase new front brake drums for my 1970 GTO?
I do not want Chinese parts |

a lot of people yank the original front drums and swap to disc, so check parts for sale here or post a wanted ad. you could also check Rock Auto.

If you're not in a hurry, I will be pulling mine off to install discs probably by the end of summer. You can have them for the cost shipping if you want.

If you have the extra money laying around then i would suggest buying a power disc kit from jegs, summit or ground up.... it makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks so much everyone for your ideas and advice!!
I decided to install a disk brake kit instead of replacing front drums!! I installed kit 2 weeks ago and do like it. Only wondering if anyone else installed one of these kits with vacuum booster and master cylinder, spindles, calipers, hub, back plate etc...all at the same time? What I noticed is the travel on the brake petal goes further down before any braking. Petal is firm, but have not slammed on brakes yet to check for sudden stops, wanted to brake in first. Is there anything to check? |

Also check the rear shoes to make sure they're properly adjusted . . .

Also look at the rear brake hose, many times they look fine from the outside and they fracture inside and swell upon application causing low pedal. |
