Thanks Guys. No Norwalk this year. Smokin my wad on fuel for the trip to SoCal with the 64. Hope to have the 66 back in action later this year. If I can get some seat time between the end of the year and Norwalk 2013 we may make the trip then.

Thanks for the compliments. My buddy Axle is really hip on the old hot rods and had some great ideas for my build. Deep down I'm really a GTO guy and that's the reason I sold the 61 Ventura to build this car. Obviously I didn't want to chop up a real GTO so I used a Tempest Custom for the donor. I have the 66 GTO race car which is all tube chassis, slammed/ pretty low and runs fairly fast. With this build, I really just wanted something completely different. More of a hot rod, but still had to have a Pontiac. So going old school, ,, Gasser fit the bill. The other thing that I kinda had in mind is, most people don't expect a Gasser to be a 7 second rocket, so if I take this to the track and run 10's I don't think it will disapoint anyone. Anyway, I didn't build this to be a race car. I already have that with the 66. I just wanted a hot rod that looked cool, that I could come home from work on Friday, turn the key and go hit the local cruise night. Hopefully nobody tries to egg me on at a stop light with a chevy or ford on the way home though cuz I'd really hate to make them feel bad
,,,,,,,, Hey, It's in my bloodBlueghoast, Thanks Man. You see that smile on my face ? That's the way I drive around. It cracks me up when you see pictures of these guys with their cars and they try to look all tough and serious. I'm happy as $h1t when I get to drive my car.

I'm just about finished with the interior. I made some cushy armrests using MOON gas pedals and some 3" gussets with holes. Obviously I wasn't going for comfort. Just something different.

When I get my 62 tempest going I'll have to get a picture like that with me driving it down the road, It just seams to capture the spirit and nostalga when driving these old cars. Reminds me of those old posters you used to see. Hope to have mine going soooon. GT. |

Hey Bill, Here's a picture of my Orange fender, and my brothers corvette monza red fender. The monza red is probably a few shades darker than Carousel red. I went with a straight orange for mine

Just painted a piece at a time, Or a few pieces at a time. It has worked out really well and kept the waste next to nothing. Doing this in my shop with a makeshift spray booth.
I bought the single stage acrylic urethane system that Summit Racing sells. Paint for the whole car: $72.00 1 gallon $19.95 quart activator $9.95 reducer $102.00 Total. I spent more on evercoat body filler than I did for the paint job. I went with single stage because I'm trying to keep the car old school looking and I didn't want the in your face shine from a clear coat. Not saying I don't like a beautiful 2 stage paint job. Just not on this car. My brother Darren bought his paint from another online outfit that offered the Monza Red. Same exact system that I used. His gallon of red was only $89.00. He had tried a number of paint stores and was finding an average price for his red was about $ 300.00 gal.
