Default Transmission question

What would cause the transmission on a 1970 GP to shift hard when cold, but shifts smoothly after its warmed up? Has anyone else ran into this!

Thanks. Wes

How is your vacuum supply and have you checked it at the modulator?

Like engine oil and higher oil pressure when cold, the fluid is thicker causing higher pressures, pretty much normal from my experience.

Found the trans oil level way over the recommended level, there is a lot of little things popin up on a car that has sat awhile. Making a punch list..LOL it's going to be a busy winter.

Vacuum Modulator valve may LIKELY be binding in the case.

take valve out and 320 grit the valve, with bind area TYPICALLY being the largest Diameter landing.

1/2 inch,

That's a good point especially since its been sitting for awhile, can't hurt to pull it off and check it.
Thanks Wes

Default Transmission Modulator Valve Help Needed

Can anyone tell me the GM part Number for the M40/ TH400 transmission modulator valve?

Would any TH400 modulator valve work, ie 1973 in 1970 car? Does anyone have a modulator valve available or a source?

I have found one for a later model M40.

Any thoughts guys?

The aftermarket red stripe, small can modulator will work fine. That is what we use on any THM 350/400 and it is adjustable.
