Default vapor lines

hi guys,

im trying my best to put this car back together right but i didnt start with much. im ordering fuel and brake lines from inline tube an need help with what to get.

right now i have the 2pcs fuel line on the pass side and the brake line running doen the drivers side. The car does have the emissions canister so i might as well hook it back up right?

i guess im confused with the "main vapor line" and the "fuel return line." oh and especially "1971-74 Vapor Line 1pc Core Support 5/16" dia" <- no idea what that is!

just really want to know exactly what i need to finish the fuel and brake line part of my build. link below to the 71 line offered by inline tube.

The fuel return line runs along side the main fuel line on the passenger side. You can purchase the sending unit with or without the return line connection. You have to get the right fuel pump to match what you have as well.
As far as the vapor lines go, there is a long vapor line that runs next to the brake line on the driver side. It comes up near the main wiring connector in the firewall close to the brake master cylinder. From there, a rubber hose goes over the inner fender to the bottom of your core support. That is where the Core Support line connects and goes across the bottom of your core support to the passenger side and comes up where another rubber hose connects to the vapor canister.
What year car do you have?

wow thank you for the info!

its a 71
i dont even have a vapor canister so i have to look for that too.
i would like to replace the sending unit just to i know ive replaced it all. Im sure it works but why not.

the brake line on the drivers side came with clips large enough for two lines but not the 2pcs drivers side fuel line. strange, thats why i was confused as to if i even need that other line on the drivers side.

i have to go back and reread your post a few more time but i think i got it. the pump i have does have two line coming out the bottom, i assume thats for the return line. now big questionis can i put that retuen line in without pulling the engine? i know i made sure to put the main line in when i have the engine out.

really appreciate your help btw

Glad the info helped. As far as adding the return line, it is difficult but not impossible to do it with the engine in there. Hopefully your fenders aren't on yet. The fuel pump that supports the return line actual has 3 connectors on it. 2 for the lines and 1 for the carb. If you have 3, then you either have to change the pump or add the return line or you will be pumping fuel out everywhere.
If it was me, I wouldn't worry about the vapor line or the canister. I would just block off the lines on the tank for it and let it ride.

Life saver!

Yeah the fenders are on lol. First time in three years!

What's the best way to block the lines?
Couldn't I just block the vent lines on the back on the tank too and get a vented cap?

The line under the core support is very restricted from the factory, hard to see in the assy manual but its discussed in the service manual. This keeps the pressure going into canister even

update, i got the return line today and the rear section went in no problem. The front section is impossible with the engine in, so i have to pull it or atleast move it up as much as i can.

question though. does the front half still follow to main fuel line to the pump? I straightened the bend for shipping and i dont see it going the same path. also the last 6-7" it does a complete 180 turn on itself. i thought that was strange. thought?

One of those lines goes behind the cross-member, and one goes in front of it. I'm thinking the main line is in the rear, but I don't remember for sure. I think I can get a pic tomorrow if you need it.

That would make more sense. The main line is behind for sure.

So it may be possible to get it in without taking the motor out if it goes in front of the crossmember. Hmmm. If you get the chance totals a pic that would be great
