Default Rejuvenating rubber friction wheel

On my boat lift the electric motor for raising or lowering my boat has a rubber friction wheel that rubs against the 4' dia manual steel wheel. Is there something that I can apply to the rub wheel to soften it and make it more sticky?

VHT used to rejuvenate slicks should work.

An old slot car trick to make the rear tires soft and sticky, methyl salicylate, or oil of wintergreen can be purchased in drug stores and it works quite well. it actually softens the tires and it's really sticky, one of the ingredients used in mint chewing gum so you know it's sticky.

We use a wheel like that to open and close sliding garage doors at work. It is on the output shaft of a hydraulic motor and rotates over a track, causung the door to move. I bet McMaster has new ones in their catalog.
