ad is a bit confusing, he says the only way to get a 4 speed was with the 400 but says his is a factory 455, must be a conversion.

Pontiac didn't put a 4spd with a 455 in a Grand Am in 73 or 74 or 75. No Lemans or GTO's got a 4 spd. with a 455 either. He also says a factory hurst shifter , wrong it would have been an ITM shifter. with a big black or white ball only to. I don't know where that plate came from either Pontiac didn't put number plates on the inside of the Grand Am to show build numbers. Now lets talk about that tag that says high performance on it. I think that may have come for a very cheap parts store way back when. But it's not a Pontiac item. I was able to send him a message asking for him to show us the PHS documents for it to try to prove what he's trying to sell. It'll never happen. He's just trying to hook some unsuspecting fool who is going to buy a car he thinks & ha been told it is something like he states !of ! car & scam some poor buyer into a car that is worth no more then ours are right now. And whats up with the DOC fees???? Is anyone with half a brain going to pay doc fees to buy a car anymore. What a scam artist. Some people ???????????? Or should I say some liars. His ad shows he's trying to be ok , but I think his greed is getting in the way. Just My
P. S. In the pic's the car has a back seat from a Lemans or a GTO but it's not the stock seat for a Grand Am. It's the wrong design.

With a VIN of 2H29Y3P298944, the 4 speed was added along the way. Still a very solid, loaded project that needs a driveline.

Yes, it looks like a factory 455 car that has had a conversion to M/T. The body looks to be solid like my documented 400 4spd 74 from AZ.
This car looks like it may have had an Olds or other motor in it, the right exh. pipe definitely doesn't connect to the typical Pontiac manifold but Oldsmobile RH manifolds did come out the back rather than down. And I agree, the seat pattern doesn't match up and to my knowledge, leather was never available in the 73-75 G/As (of course, a lot of ads say leather even though it is vinyl). My guess is the funky data plate covers where the original AT shifter went. If it goes cheap enough, it could still be a good deal. -Dave

the reason for that plate behind the shifter is because he does not have the 4 speed insert for the console. On automatics, the ash tray is in front, while the manuals have the ash tray to the rear. The consoles are the same, the hard part is finding that insert. That plate he installed is actually covering where the automatic shifter and indicator would be. It's not an original 4 speed. Im curious if it even has the original shifter lever which is very unique for the Grand Am. It has lots of bends in it.

The auto console bodies are similar to the manual trans bodies, but not the same. There is some differences where the floor shifter hump protrudes through the floor, and the mounting brackets are in different locations.

That's true but if you have a nice auto console, it does not take that much work to switch the brackets so that the console could be properly mounted to the floor. When I converted my 73 Grand Am over to a 4 speed, I got every single part minus the engine from a rusted out factory 73 4 speed car with only 56K miles on it. The console was a beat up and tan however the insert was mint. I took the insert out, moved I think 2 brackets and now have a mint black 4 speed console. Funny thing about that donor Grand Am 4 speed car, the owner only wanted the engine and had plan on junking the rest of the car. I was at the right place at the right time and heard about this car. I really lucked out. After he took the engine, I basically took everything else. The car was stored in a detached garage for years. The roof of the garage leaked and the car was completely rusted. There was not 1 single body part that could be used. The only 4 speed part missing was the factory ball.

Hmmm, only bid up to $460.00, reserve not met. I wonder what the reserve was? Bet the seller was surprised at the lack of bidding. If it were more central, I imagine it would have bid higher.
