Like the last post my dad wasn't a car guy at all & knew less then my daughter right now about cars. But he did buy my sister a 56 starchief & it was a tank. It ran great but the raditor leaked a little bit. But the best story was when my dad & a friend of his were out drinking on a sat night . Well they were flying down an old country road & went off the road & took out about 50-60 ft of a farmers fence came back out on the road & kept right on going with only putting a small scratch on the front bumper. They went back a few days later a paid for the fence but the car was undamaged & got sold about 1 month later because of the raditor kept leaking. It was a 2 tone gray , but looked great to me.

My dad actually owned a 70 HEMI Cuda.I remember as I was 9 years old.The day he picked the car up was the day he had found out that my Mom was pregnet with my younger brother making three children. Needless to say my Mom made my dad get ride of the car for something more practicle. He kept the car for about 5 or 6 months before trading it in for a 71 Plymoth wagon.Thats my favorite car my dad owned,but he did have a 62 Conv. Impala with a 409 340hp,63 Impala with a 409 425hp,64 Merc. Maurader with a 427 and 2 four's and a 4spd.

The first car my folks had was a 55 Chevy 2 door, not sure if it was a hardtop or not. I'll ask my dad turkey day, thankfully he's still around... It was that dark pinkish color...

Second car was a 57 Chevy 2 door wagon, not a Nomad, though, it was a pile. I remember dad out in the stand alone one car garage (early 60's, typical) working on it...too often

Traded it for a 59 Catalina wagon. It had been the towns ambulance (was red). It was neat, but the engine would stall every other time my mom drove it, turning onto the street we lived on, twice it came to a rest ,right on the rail road tracks, she was pissed!!! (ever heard that saying "If momma ain't happy, nobodies happy"...LOL)The 3rd time this happened over a span of around a year and a half, the wagon went bye-bye.

THEN we got a 2 door 66 Olds 88, light blue color, 330 2 Bbl. It was the best. although I'd rather have the first 2 Chevys, if I got a choice...

My dad was into performance cars in a mild way, I'd say. The '66 Bonneville 2dr hardtop my parents bought new and kept until 1979 was the car that's responsible for me being so into Pontiacs. Dad also had a '66 Mustang w/ 289 for about 10 years - my friends in elementary school and junior high thought that one was the coolest. But the one that's my "favorite", because it's what I learned to drive in, cruise in high school, drove to the senior prom, etc. was a '77 Chevy Caprice. Dad ordered it with the healthiest motor, a 350 4-barrel, the optional axle ratio (3.08), and the F41 sport suspension. I don't remember what the hp rating was, but it felt quick at the time, and pretty much outran everything anyone in my circle of friends had (I grew up in Northern VA - not much hi-po stuff running around there back then). And with the F41, it really handled well. The picture below is after I mildly restored the exterior of the car in the mid-90s... it was originally 2-tone gold with the dark gold on the sides and the cream on the top surfaces. I made it 1-tone cream. Shortly after this pic was taken, it got totaled while it sat in the parking lot at my office - some idiot flying through the lot got T-boned and ricocheted into it...

Two cars stand out. 59 El Camino, 348/tri-power and a 4 speed. Was the tow car for the midget in my avatar and the same color. Owned it from 1960 to 75. And the other one has been in the family since the 60's and after sitting for 20 years was put back together a few years ago. 32, all steel, 354 hemi, Lincoln 3 speed, Halibrand quick change.

62 Catalina 389 2bbl, 3 on-the-tree. Seafoam aqua. I don't recall it having any options other than full-sized hubcaps. No radio, no windshield washer, no power anything. It would do 120 easily. Bought it new from Peoples Pontiac in Chicago.

Favorite non-Pontiac. 1953 Studebaker Commander Coupe. Maroon, V8, 3 speed with overdrive.

my dad has his first car still its a ls6 powered 68 Chevy ll (last year of them being Chevy ll) nova SS butternut with a back vinyl top and black interior muncie m21 posi 12 bolt i remember riding around in that car as a kid thru town and it bangen round the super hot cam mixed with solid lifters really dosnt like any thing under 30 mph

Schab, sorry to hear that. You should drive them with pride. They were a big part of your dad, he would love to see your drive them.

My earliest "car" memory was of my Dad's 66 corvette roadster. The folks would put me in that little cubby behind the seats. (I was 3-4 years old) very good fun for a little kid! My brother came along and the vette got traded for a more practical "family" car. A 67 gto! I have got to get a copy of the folks' black and white photo of me standing in front of that car while Dad was washing it back in 68. As I restore my 67 Gto, my Dad reminds me he can't live forever and Reeeaaly wants to drive an old goat again. Oh, and my Dad told me he got $1800 trade in for the vette on his 67 gto deal, yeesshh!

Came home from the hospital when born in a 1968 Vodoo green HO four speed GTO with dealer installed Ram Air.

When I was 17 he had a 1975 bucaneer red Trans Am that he let me drive to school. I will never forget watching the hood scoop shake at stop lights. Awesome!

I would encourage you to drive them and take good care of them in his memory.

Dad's GTO will always be his car. I'm just a "steward" of his stuff. (I had it out today - drove to the corner store).
