1960 Ventura Starter - Need help!
I just bought a very nice '60 389 tri-power Ventura with the hydramatic transmission. The starter was the first thing that died. I can't find a rebuilt one. NAPA shows one but when it came in the starter is about an inch too long and the starter drive gear opening housing is mounted on the wrong side. Can anyone direct me to a company or part number for NAPA, O'Reilly, ect. for a starter for the '60 model? I've had Pontiacs for years but this is the first car I have ever owned one with the bellhousing mounted starter. Thanks in advance!

How about just having yours rebuilt?

most of those era starters are the same, they just have a different head bolted on it for its application. It should not be hard to use your head on the new starter and get down the road.

'60 starter
I'm pretty sure the armature is shorted on mine. I have the new starter, wasn't sure if I could canabilize the new "wrong one" and didn't want to ruin it for nothing. I may have to try to do what you are suggesting. Thanks.

The drive on the 60 starter is different than the 65-up, if I remember correctly.

The drive is different, the armature is different, and the drive housing is different. I have one if you are interested. 1107641 6A4 So it is actually for a 1956. The same starter was used from 56-60. Mine is dated Jan. 4th 1956. Let me know if you are interested. If you want yours rebuilt I can do that too. I have been rebuilding starters generators and alternators for 38 years and have all the parts except for the drive housing to rebuild yours. If you do find one near your location I would advise you to keep your original one because they are becoming very hard to find. Mark at Stellar Generator Pittsburgh Pa. 15226. 412-563-2100

I am interested. How much do you want for it and has it been rebuilt? I have been out of town and could not reply sooner.
