Dad's GTO will always be his car. I'm just a "steward" of his stuff. (I had it out today - drove to the corner store).

Moms GTO will always be hers. It took me 2 years before I would drive it. We started the restoration in March of 02 and her breast cancer returned in April. We finished her car in May of 05 and she would drive it anywhere she could. She succumbed to cancer in June 07. Her favorite ride was to Ritters for Vanilla Custard. This year I had Ritters quite a few times.
I would encourage you to take your dad for ride. Its tough I know, for me the rides bring back many great memories and she is smiling right along with me.

My favorite car my father owned was this 1963 Apollo 3500 Gran Turismo.

With out doubt it was his pride and joy, and also mine the 8th Apollo produced, parked here in front of the house we lived in when the car was purchased new.

I decided to fully insure and drive this car again on a regular basis earlier this year, I attended as many car shows and ralleys as I could. Logged about 15k miles in the process. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of people along the way.

I mentioned this before, but... My dad had several Pontiacs, and the best one in my mind was the '57 Super Chief with 3x2. It was a black four door HT.

Tough call for me too, as dad wasn't a car guy either, but he did set the Pontiac dye in me early.

Mom got a new Granada Gold '70 Catalina (2 door Hardtop) for Christmas '69, and I was born in August '70, so guess I'd have to lean that way... Yep, came home from the hospital in that one.

Of course I don't remember the '70 too much as he traded it off for a '74 Catalina (4 door Sedan) in early '74 when I was 3 years old and the family was growing. That '74 I really remember though, and have many fond memories of road trips in it.

All these shots are of me... 1 yr old alongside the '70, 5 years old alongside the '74 on Galveston beach, Summer 2011 with my '74 Bonne @ my childhood home in Denver, and the latest aquistion, my '70 Ventura soon to be back on the road.

Hmmm... wonder why I have an affinity for those cars to this day??

I had it pretty good. Dad had a 66 GTO conv. stick car.Candlelight cream with a black top. Unfortunately for me, he sold it when I was 14. We got him in another 66 GTO twenty five years later. This one is a drop top, tri-power, four speed. And of course it was painted candlelight cream.

Dad wasn't a car guy. Most of the vehicles he bought were either junk or became junk shortly after he bought them. My favorite was a 64 ford Galaxie, burgandy, white top and cream interior. The car was in nice condition when he bought it and was the car I learned to drive on. In my opinon the 64 was the best looking Galaxie Ford ever made.

Looks to be a future Chasing Classic Cars Wayne Corini episode. You know, those episodes where he flys in, buys it and flips in within a week...at least that's how it is on the shows. Good to see you are driving it and enjoying it. Congrats.

Cool cars and stories here.

My dad drove this car pretty hard when he owned it, can't do the things today he did back then though. I do try though , and I've gotten several tickets in the process and several warnings as well LOL It took me a while to get the carb tuned

'58 Bel Air with the 348 Power Pack and three on the tree. He would wind it up in 2nd to 90 mph, then slap shift it into 3rd.

My Father had 2 interesting cars, a 63 Jag E-type, that he sold to buy my Favorate, it was a 427 4-speed 8 pasenger 1969 Chevy Townsman Wagon, my mother got tired of having to always tote us kids around herself, as the E-type was a bit to small for 6 kids and 3 dogs. So he was told to trade it in for a "3-seat wagon" my father did her 1 better and ordered a bucket seat wagon, so he said it was a "4-seat wagon" it was silver, no wood trim and had a black interior (great for southern Texas!!!! I can still feel my skin sticking to the seats!!!!) With a highway gear it didn't come out of the hole well, but from 20mph it sure did go!!!
Unfortunatly it died an untimely death in 71 on a early morning fishing trip in Colorado.

The one car I loved yet never actually saw in person was his 65 GTO. He bought it new but sold it whwn my older brother was born.

My favorite ride he had that I actually knew was his '71 Monte Carlo. It was Big and orange and I loved it. My brother and I used to ride up on the rear package tray.

No, just my Fathers usual impatence when it came to getting to the fishing spot at least 1 hour before any one else, he passed a car that had slowed to let a wrecker pulling anouther car out of the ditch, and bounced it off the front bumper of the wrecker and into the car being towed. We were both lucky to have not been seriously injured!!!!

Mom had to come get us, and my Father them had to buy a car off the lot, and got his most hated car ever, a 71 Kingswood with a small block 400. He is 92 years old and still has nothing good to say about that wagon!!!!

Larry, You ever going to send me the Firebird water/oil gauge? You don't reply to messages once you received my check.
