So this was kind of crazy today! I was priming the hood in preparation for the finish coats to the underside and this mummified mouse pops out!
That little sucker was in there pretty good as that hood was soda blasted, washed, blown out, sanded, welded on, mud work, more sanding, more blowing etc..... I must have blown out all the cracks and crevices for 5 minutes today alone after sanding and scuffing one last time before I wiped with wax and grease remover and tack clothed.
What finally made it pop out was I had the spray gun set so I could fuzz some paint into the holes in the supports, you know, almost a zero tip rather then a fan and not much paint coming out and out she came!
Can't believe it stayed in there after all these years of working on it.

When I bought my 69 GP last summer I noticed that there was an unpleasant smell in my garage. I was getting dust on the engine every time I popped the hood so I decided to rip out the underhood pad (that was missing a corner) and hose out the hood and engine bay.

A few days later I walked into the garage and it had a repulsive smell. I traced it to the engine bay of the GP so I drove it outside and took the hose to it again. This time I noticed that the area around the inside of the "beak" of the hood was gummed up with gunk.

I started pulling it out and realized it was the missing part of the underhood pad. The bad smell was from a family of mice who build a nest in there and died. I guess wetting it originally actived their dried out bodies. The gunk was full of mini body parts, yuck!

Took several washings with disinfectants to finally lose the smell. Luckily it never made it inside the car.

Did feel sorry for the little guys though. Previous owner had it stored in his warehouse for many years.

My Mom told me her car had a bad smell and the blower motor was making noise. SO I pulled the blower motor out and there was a mouse all waded up inside the squirrel cage[or should I say, the mouse cage]. I figure at some point, when my Mom turned on the heater, he probably kept up with it for a little while, until he got too tired, then his wittle wegs couldn't take it anymore, and gave up the ghost!

Hi GW-

Who are you sending your bumper out to? What is your plan for the tail light bezels? I am wanting to get my bumper fixed and re-chromed. It has a medium size dent, no tearing of the metal and no rust. I'm also thinking of the composite bezels as I haven't heard anything on the repo pot metal ones, good or bad, not sure mine could be restored. Your Goat is looking good, thanks for posting your progress!!

I sent my bumper to a local shop and already have it back. Looks great but still not perfect as I had asked for. Cost me $1000 to get it done I will try to post some pictures soon.
As far as tail light bezels I have a set if the reproduction metal ones and they are excellent quality as far as I am concerned. Believe I got mine from Richard Sargent. Seems as though a lot of people have them available now, at least I believe there all the same but not sure.

Sprayed the spatter paint in the trunk today. Primed with black epoxy first then top coated with black/aqua Zolatone with hardner.
Here is what it looked like when I pulled her apart.



Here is the now finished trunk.

I am happy with the way it turned out. Not a perfect match by any means but looks great and will last.
This photo is a little deceiving as the speckels are aqua and not white as it appears.

And here Is a shot of the finished bottom side. Sprayed in DuPont Imeron as mentioned before.

Sorry for not posting a reply sooner, I was put in a short "vacation" by the mods.
Anyway, yes still making some progress and hope to have the body on the frame soon.
And to answer your question, yes I believe the underside to be black.

Thanks GW!! I see places on the underside of my 69 that look as if it had a black finish especially the area under the gas tank. What % gloss did you use, 60%?

Charles, I used DuPont Imiron in satin. I sprayed out the satin and semi gloss and the satin was a more accurate representation to me.
Restored my pedals today. Took apart and blasted with crushed glass. Painted with cast and black. Cooked the bolts in zinc phosphate.
Just need new pads and trim.

Just got my hood hinges back yesterday. Rowland Hall restored them for me. Notice the numbers he reproduced in his rivets. I put one of the original rivets next to the reproduced one in the second photo.
I had Chem Processing do the manganese phosphate coatings on them.
Pretty pleased.
